Does anyone have any advice on dealing with bad payers?
We did a carpet clean for a woman on saturday, we had quoted over the fone and had underpriced it on the description given. but hey ho thats a cross we bear.
anyway the woman asked for us to decorate her front room for her, its a large room almost like 3 rooms in one.
we gave her a verbal quote while we were there on sat which was agreed.
then late saturday night she called and said she was on a tight budget and could we use cheaper paint and not bother about painting the woodwork.
i gave her a new price to accomodate this and she stated she wanted white ceiling and magnolia walls and the job was booked in for monday and explained we would have it finished by tuesday.
arrived monday 9am to do make a start, she was at work, mum next door let us in and we made a start on moving furniture etc.
painted the ceiling with mum popping in n out every 5 mins saying is that all you've done, she said you told her a couple of hours and it be done.
due to large amount of furniture we decided to do one half then the other.
started painting the walls and again mum was in and out having digs saying ohhhh thats not magnolia she aint gonna be happy etc.
carried on and finished the first half of room and daughter came home going mad that we were still there, saying we said it be done by now and its an inconvenience us being there. she also started ranting about the colour.
showed her the tin... says magnolia on the tin and left her to it said be back today to finish it.
got there this morning, again she was at work but they had completely emptied all the furniture from room and we got on with it.
finished mid-day and her mum came round to pay us the money .
it was
Treena How much do you charge for a hours work? divide that into tomsk
Hi Trena, I'm with Tomsk with this. Deep breath, stick pins in a voodoo doll and put it down to experience. I know you're kicking yourself over a verbal quote, and this chancer has taken you for a ride. You've done damage limitation by answering the negative comment, and you have other good comments. Get more positive comments on, and believe it or not, the odd negative one, as long as its backed up with comments from yourself can actually work in your favour, as it proves they are genuine! This seems to work well with the likes of Trip adviser. I'm going to include right to reply in our own reviews on MLS in our next major update, as most others including google have now started doing this. Don't let one freeloader drag you down!! ![]()
Hi Trena Im with you but unfortunately there isnt much you can do about it, well legally anyway, PM for other suggestions ![]() Chin up, chalk it up to a bad experience - on to the next full paying job ![]() Clive
Speak to Sean at Home - credit control outsourcing & debt collection or the new site I am doing for him now, lol, (cheeky plug) Demo For Sean but seriously, this dude knows his biscuits, never write it off, chase it, better to pay a few quid to get it back than lose it altogether!
In my experience things like this are part of the learning curve , put it down to experience and dont get into this kind of situation again, next time it could be more than
hi all thanks for your replies. its not the amount of money owed,
Hi Trena its both infuriating and disheartening when this kind of thing happens. I dont do anything now without a deposit.
Seriously have to echo Kip's advice - drop Sean a line. I've only had to use his services once so far, but I've been impressed. I thought that getting someone like him to help me out would cost more than the invoice itself was for, but I asked for a quote on the offchance and was very pleasantly surprised. VirtuallyMary
I have not seen Sean on the forum for sometime - I need his services also for a debt of a guy that owes me tomsk |
