Why are there no coffin shops on our High Streets?

How's that for a question! It was prompted by a new customer, who listed their business and specialises in biodegradeable coffins.

She's done a great listing, and then follows it up with an article discussing the fact that there are no coffin shops on our high streets.

I thought it was a great marketing trick, as its almost daring you to read on and get absorbed into the topic.

Lets face it, the only certainty in life is that we'll croak it ay some point, so maybe we need a few coffin shops with nice window displays in the high street? Instead of the sombre funeral parlours?

At least you have a guarenteed ongoing potential customer base, not many businesses can say that

Why not indeed!
I think coffin shops would be a great addition to the high st. I am sure that there are many of us that would like to pick our own box

I always figure by the time I'm in it, I'll be past caring...

TBH I reckon it could go down (pardon the pun) a storm. Especially if they couold get licensing on designs for example a cofin with Abba or Elvis Presley images on it (well, its always gonna be the fanatics they stump up for these weird things!).

Why does it have to be teak or oak?

Why can't it be shiny white melamine with a pic of your family on it?

Love it, now theres a market, customised coffins!

I'd have a 4x4 coffin in the shape of a landrover, or maybe a traditional one with a little sensor on it, so if people got too close it would trigger a recording, "help let me out"

Maybe we'll see "coffins r us", and our kids will take us along to help choose one , as we go full circle

hahaha

I have been reading this, and now feel slightly insane.

Customised coffins...I'm just waiting for a washed up actor come on TV and tell us all now.

I hope you are all happy!!

Coffins R Us, great name!

I think it would work, actually, joking apart.

In fact I might be a Funeral Planner! Like a wedding planner, but not as much to plan and always short notice unless people are terminal in which case they do prepare in advance anyway. They could leave behind a website of their life on Earth for everyone to visit and pay respects, etc. Seriously!

There is one in Ashford. Not quite in the high street but not too far away. A few weeks back they had a coffin in the window that was painted to look like the union jack/flag. I took a photo and put it on my Twitter....

You dont see coffin shops because they are a dead business...sorry couldn't resist.

I'm sure I read about/saw on tv something about customised coffins, though it was in the US. In principle doesnt sound like a bad idea, but the fact you dont see any must mean something. Besides, they are provided by the funeral arrangers, of which you do see on high streets,
