Google Analytics Query

Not sure if I am posting this is the right place so please move if I've got it totally wrong

I have a query about a visitor issue I have seen on my GA results and wondering if anyone can shed any light on this for me.

Since yesterday, I've had a very very high number of website visitors reportedly coming from a town in Florida called Windermere. They are registering as unique visitors (so different IP), direct to homepage traffic, 1 page visit, 0 time spend on my site and of course 100% bounce rate.

It's obviously some sort of automated thing visiting my site. I've never come across this in all my years....
So I have 2 questions:
1. Why is this happening?
2. How do I stop it? - It's completely screwing up my web stats!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like an attempted denial of service attact, a kiddie script running on infected zombie PC's with the intention to overload port 80 on your server.

But normally this is only targetted at something like a bluechip, so seems a bit odd.

Is it still happening?

Are the IPs all from the same range? If they are, can you or your ISP block the range?

Steve's right Denial of Service attacks are often against the big boys with loads of enemies. It might be a random thing. You just have to wait and see, what's the volume like?

Am hoping it has stopped. Had nothing Saturday and Sunday.

It peaked on Thursday with 200 visits and 100 on the days either side from the same location in Florida but no idea if it is the same IP ( need to check the logs)

I will see what tomorrow brings before I delve.

Me and the site are new boys so the site doesn't get masses of traffic at the mo - have absolutely no idea why they could have targeted my little site from the millions out there.
