WebP, a new image format to replace gif & jpeg's

Googles latest mission is to speed up the web, and to be fair, now I'm back on Google Chrome, this browser is seriously quicker than my previous firefox.

But big G's argument is that images make up a large part of a web page, and the file formats in use were actually created a long time ago (in web terms )

So Googles come out with WebP, a new format that will compress images more, but without losing the quality.

They've set up a demo page to win us all over, and I've no doubt this will soon be in regular use. I assume it will be cross broswer support
