This is the nice tool. But I use website Auditor. This is the premium version.

A lot of tools can be used if you select the location as the USA, or if just doing a Google search, you can force a google.com search over your country specific site by typing in www.google.com/ncr

But this can still throw up local results based on your IP, so to really see what's going on, I use a proxy to check our USA specific rankings on Google.com - 1.hidemyass.com

If you are using Google Chrome, have you tried using incognito mode (options - new incognioto window)

Or whatever browser you are using, make sure it's not caching any local results.

Using a proxy in a browser anon/cookieless mode should give you accurate results. Also, different people can see different results depending on which google server they hit, as they are all getting continually updated.
