It seems allot of people simply don

It sometimes frustrates me how no one seems to want to help especially if you are only asking for some guidance

I think it depends but can you be more specific in what circumstances this might occur.

I'm guessing you're talking about mentoring. In a way it like some of the help on here and similar forums, eg I remember when you asked for some help on how to get into marketing, you got some good replies if I rem rightly, from at least MagnifyB.

So people are willing to help, but guess it's down to the amount required and exactly what it is you want.

If I was web designer and someone came to me asking me to teach them basic HTML, I'd prob point them in the direction of a nightschool or a decent manual.

If they came and had a particular issue or wanted some advice on how to do something more complex and were pushing themselves, and had obviously done all the foundation stuff, I'd probably be more willing.

Maybe it's just me?

Personally I don't see any reason not to aid people or pass on your knowledge and wisdom to those that want to know and are willing to progress their knowledge/skill base.

However since starting MagnifyB it can sometimes depend on time and how much mentoring is needed.

because of our niche market i would only help if they were far enough away so they do not have any affect on our income

As I said earlier, it depends on many things. The business you're in, who is asking and so on. For instance, if its an independent Graphic designer asking for advice on a new software package from another of the same ilk and they are both prepared to 'collaborate' in the same way, that make sense and there would be no reason to encourage it.
However, if its one rival company asking advice of another rival which could impact business, you couldn't justify that.

For example, say someone was asking for some advice on all things business, they were quite young and wanted to learn from people they aspired to would you offer them that help?

I have seen some young people really want to do something in there spare time and have offered money to learn from people who have done it but some people simply don
