I am wondering who people look up to? And why and in a business or personal way.

I was asked the other day and I gave 3 answers.

1) Local Entrepreneur

awww, stop it, you'll make us blush

Me personally, businesswise, big fan of Branson, and after reading his book recently, was very impressed with Lord Sugar, and I have completely reformed my opinion of him.

But from a general inspiration, then it has to be someone like Jo Payne, fund raising manager for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, who lives and breathes it, is relentless, and the amounts she raises is staggering.

Pretty much anyone who dedicates their live to a worthy cause. It takes a special kind of person to do that, who isn't motivated by money or material things like the rest of us

I suppose it would be family members and former senior work colleagues

Ordinary people who behave very much better than I think I would in the same circumstances. Examples:-

Miep and her colleagues who between them managed to hide and feed Ann Frank and her family, under the noses of the Nazis and their Dutch collaborators. They did this for years while knowing they faced death if they were caught and being constantly hungry, cold and tired.

Nan, Lornie and the other carers on Talking Point with seemingly endless powers of altruism and endurance to call on while caring for "their" dementia sufferers and battling all the obstacles the social care system, NHS etc put in their way.

The people who put together organisations to successfully right social / welfare problems they've stumbled across - eg Oxfam was founded by some students (I think) and The Samaritans by a vicar.

While I've met many business people whose skills and characters I respect, I don't "look up to" any of these in the same way.

Got to be honest i think the word "hero" is too frequently used, and in my mind its not some footballer thats just scored 3 times in a match!

Heros to me are people that go to defend our Country and unfortunately dont come back, dont get me wrong the ones that do come home deserve the title too.

Personally though I admire people who can help people battle life threatening illnesses. My father spent his last few days at a local Marie Curie Hospice, i asked one of the nurses looking after him how she did it - simple she replied - its a privilege to be able to help him at his time of need

It's really very touching.

Whether you live in any part of the world the profession of the soldier filled you with admiration and patriotism.

Have a nice day.

Judy Ledger, who founded Baby Lifeline after she lost 3 premature babies. I met her when our dragonboat team did an endurance dragonboat fundraiser for her charity - Loch Ness, Lake Windermere and Lake Bala (!) in 19 hours, 22 minutes, well under the 24 hour target we'd set. She even joined in some of the practices.

Richard Branson.

The founders of The Elders organisation.

Well I truly feel how many times do we actually take everything from that one person. We generally don't.
I was attending one of the networking Sessions and i met almost 50 people. we discussed and i felt they are so talented in their own ways. So we can actually opt for the little things that can make our work good and leave the rest.
That ways we can actually look up at everyone
