I noticed many freelancers from India work for freelancer.com

there are a lot of projects posted on freelance websites like elance, odesk but if you are based in the UK and expect to be paid UK standard salary, it will be very difficult for you to compete with cheaper programmers from other countries like india, ukraine etc.

the best method may be to do a lot of SEO for your own website so potential clients can find you via google.

try listing your company on business platforms like thomson local, yell, lacartes and then get people to write reviews about your company

try finding niche business directories specialised in the IT, web development sector or the local area and add your business there. try posting your information on local business bureaus like the local council's website.

you can also try email marketing, offering companies that already have their own websites to either upgrade/revamp or build apps for them. a lot of businesses' own websites are shockingly 1998.

Well, geekfreelancers collects projects from elance and other places so this way if you are looking for a place to get lucrative project it seems a right place being a Uk based company. Yes you are right, Indian etc work for freelancer projects there I have seen that too...

You have to show your skills to the client to get more projects.
