Baidu - how does it compare with Google?

I've edited the title of your post, because outside of China, you will find the number 1 search engine, like it or loathe it is Google.

Interesting though that you refer to Google for information outside of China, I assume you are accessing this via a proxy? My understanding is Google is blocked within China as part of the famous Chinese Firewall, is that still correct?

I've just done a search on Baidu.com for mylocalservices and I've noticed it does show results for our US directory, and this forum. So does that mean that our sites are accessible from inside China, or is it because I'm accessing it from the UK?

Can anyone else see their sites on Baidu (remember to translate to English!).

Interesting stuff, know very little about the search style or potential of China, so hoping shtstywatermeter is going to give us an insight

To begin with, sjr4x4,thanks very much for your "happy birthday". Hope you have had a nice weekend. Again, thanks a lot for editing my post title. It is getting more focused. It is true that some parts of the google have been blocked. But i dont have to use proxy to access this forum. Firstly i have to download a google chrome browser.when i am googling on line, i always was directed to Google. No worry at all. I can click "go to google english". Then i will be redirected to Google. By doing this, i accessed the great forum. To be honest, i can not access facebook and twitter here in China as they have been blocked. I sometimes can access it by using a proxy. oops! i have no idea what is going on. Baidu is very popular in China. The president of baidu has become the first most richest man in mainland china. He once used to be an searching engine expert and worked there in the states. Why he is so rich? let me explain. If you wanna do business via internet here in China. Baidu will help you a lot. You have to pay charges if you wanna expose your business profile as much as possible. More publicity,more charges. Money really talks. Your have no alternatives which can compare with baidu in China. Google has been oustered from China. So baidu now is the BIG BOSS here in China. Many small businesses have to contribute most of the turnover to baidu. We have no choice. We are not reputable as big companies. But nobody is gonna do business with you if you are invisiblely known on the internet. It is a truth in "Internet Age".

Was I right when I heard that Baidu is bringing a UK version or language to there search?
