Some quite interesting news came to light on twtter today that Bing might be sold to Facebook, now if this happens I guess it would be a massive deal breaker and % changer for the battle of the engines

Rumor of the day: Microsoft To Swap Bing For Facebook Shares Foo forum at WebmasterWorld

This would be very interesting, although with Facebooks resources, I'm amazed that Facebook still hasn't gone the final step and created a search engine. Could prob design one from scratch for a lot cheaper than trying to fix or brand Bing as a serious competitor to Google.

Shall watch with interest if this moves from rumour to fact!

Hmm. Strange one for me. Search is a really expensive business to run as Bing is proving by posting annual loses every year. Facebook itself is still a young company positioned for growth - how would they go about underwriting Bing?

Thanks,

Interesting. Like the comment that it would be cheaper to build a search engine from scratch rather than try to fix or Bing as a serious competitor to google.

Doubt that there is much to this rumor but who knows. Wonder how many shares Facebook would think Bing is worth (least then they paid for Instagram?)

Well I've mentioned it a few times over the years, and always thought a Facebook Search Engine was the next logical step. It looks like I'm not alone:

Waiting for a Facebook search engine? Eventually, it
