It's been mentioned a couple of times, but here is some investigation and proof into the shrinking number of Google Page 1 positions from the traditional 10 to a more worrying 7

That's crazy stuff. It has to be a glitch right or is google loosing it completely? I mean where is the appeal in offering the searcher less choice? Surely that's bad for user experience, and ultimately business.

Even if this was going to be a permanent change (which i doubt it will be) i can't see this effecting site traffic too much as from what i believe, its normally the top 3 results that get the majority of the traffic anyway.

how could One website get into all top 10 results and wish to stay for a long time!?

Well while Google is reducing organic results, Bing has dived in and started increasing them!

There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of logic to it at the moment, and Microsoft say they are still experimenting with the format, but Search Engine Land has a good screen shot of lots of organic results!
