Is advertising with promotional products is only effective for big brands?

Research shows that from the advertisers who use imprinted promos, people mostly recall the big brands/companies. Does that imply that advertising with promotional products is only effective for big brands like Domino's Pizza, American Heart Association or FedEx? Very often local and small businesses lack the financial muscle to advertise on TV, radio or even print media. This is where customized promotional items could save the day for them.

Can advertising with promotional products be equally effective for local and small businesses too?

Small and local business 'sell' because of their 'people' rather than their 'brand'.

So thinking laterally, promotional products with pictures of local business staff / team members might work ...... or maybe i'm just going a bit crazy.

Promotional gifts shouldn't be limited to the big boys. If done well, it can be very effective for any size business.
