Blimey, after becoming internationally famous at London 2012, looks like the "Blade Runner" is set to become notorious after allegedly gunning down his missus

Was on the news last night as well. Neighbors say they heard screaming before the gunshots, but he said he thought she was a burglar and shot her four times. He goes to court today so we'll see what happens.

TBH though, with the screaming beforehand, I don't get the whole "I thought she was a burglar" theory. Why would she be trying to get into his house at 4 in the morning?

The news last night was rather intersting, and the independant seems to echo it in this post.

Witnesses heard "non-stop shouting" coming from Oscar Pistorius' home the night his girlfriend was killed, a bail hearing was told today.
The Olympic and Paralympic star was back in court for the second day of the hearing in Pretoria.

Pistorius is now minus his sponsors Nike and Oakley, saying they have no further campaigns for him to be part of, and depending on how the court case goes, they will then decide his fate further. Here is a post from iol sports

Nike and Oakley, two American companies that were sponsors of Oscar Pistorius, have cut ties with the South African Olympic hero in the wake of charges that he murdered his girlfriend.

News is that they found a cricket bat in the house that was used to break the door down, his girlfriend's vanity bag and slippers were found in the house as well, and things don't really look all that good for him at the moment. Even if he is acquitted, his career is still far from stable.

Unfortunately, that's the price of fame. Currently an international trial by media.

Assume SA is a similar system to the UK where jurors are picked for the court case. Who won't have heard of this story or already have made their minds up.

He's not looking that convincing on the innocent front (if we have all the facts from the media), but if he is, imagine what he's going through!! He just shot his missus! Career in ruins I would imagine will be a secondary consideration for the time being, till it all sinks in.

I assume SA is like the States then, where home owners can keep loaded weapons at home for self defence? The concept seems very alien to us in the UK, although gun crime seems to slowly creep ever upwards

We are, but they have to be licensed and in a safe. But discharging it is another story entirely. Back in the day when I was still carrying my dad's magnum around I was told that you had to warn a person before firing (which sounded stupid to me in any case). I've lost touch with gun laws entirely. I don't keep them at home because of my girls.

Either way, his girlfriend was cremated yesterday as well, while his court case was ongoing, I can't help but feel sorry for her family. The evidence is against him entirely, and this "he felt vulnerable" excuse because he wasn't wearing his prosthetics seems a bit watery. Look at how far he's come, it just seems at odds with someone like him if you look at the challenges he's taken on in his life.

He's sworn off an affidavit saying he didn't kill her, but he hasn't pleaded not guilty either, so there are too many factors to look at before making a decision.

You carried a Magnum!! Holy Moly, make my day punk

I'm already seeing the Hollywood script writers sharpening their pencils, handicapped atheletes, models, guns.... box office, ticket sales....

Yea, i had my dad's .357 magnum in a special pouch. Looked like those moonbags that you wear around your waste? But it had a compartment behind the wallet for a gun. Problem was the magnum used to peek out the one corner (about an inch?) coz its nose was too long. Kicks like a mule when you shoot it too I had to carry it because of the store I worked in. Was in the middle of nowhere at the time and it was for my protection.

Oh yea, someone somewhere is going to document it in some way. His girlfriend was in a show here before she was killed, and its become "the" program to watch now.

In typical fashion, it's turning into a drama-farce-dallas-corrie-eastenders-type of scenario pretty quickly! Wonder how long before they make a film out of it.

Was watching the news last night, and it looks like his family don't really know the truth either. His brother mentioned getting to the truth about what happened. how does that happen?

Thanks,

I can't believe he can do this so where is he these day ? in prison!
