Have been a big fan of SEOMoz for a long time, and is great platform to get stats, find information, and compare notes with people in the "know"!

So was very interesting to read about the rebrand from SEOMoz CEO, Rand Fishkin, and the reason to drop the SEO from the name.
Goodbye SEOmoz. Hello Moz! - Moz

Long story short, the argument is that they cover all aspects of online marketing, such as SEM, SMM and not just SEO which could be seen as confusing.

Or it's a good way to distance yourself from those fabled letters "SEO" which 99% of us have had a bad experience with in some shape or form. Anyone with SEO in their title these days is treated to immediate suspicion and speculation that behind the scenes, all work is actually performed by low paid Indian based marketeers, who buy up lots of cheap worthless links

So has Moz done the right thing, and is this the beginning of a major shift, with Online Marketing starting to replace the term SEO, or have they lost the plot?

I don't really blame them, to be honest. What you say is true, the minute someone tell you they're into SEO, first thought is always going to be a bad one. I get that exact look when I tell people I'm an internet marketer .
