I know this is probably not the easier question to answer, but how much do you think a 2 letter co.uk domain is worth?

For example ab.co.uk or ef.co.uk?

It would depend on way too many factors to give you a definite answer ( which I think you already know ) however, you could quite easily pay over

Thanks. I could have bought this 2 letter domain for a very good price. But then I weighed it up in terms of what I could do with it, and I realised not much so I let it go. I am not in the business of buying and selling domains. I buy them to use them, and sell the ones that I don't use or let them expire.

Thanks.

I know what you mean, over the years I've collected hundreds of domains, which when you did the maths, were costing a fortune! I tried to sell a few on flippa and sedo and spent a few quid in fees, which other than a few low bids, never really got any interest.

I've got things like mylocaltaxi.com which I thought would go for a song, but no one really cares. I've got some 4 digit ones, but no 2 digit ones.

I think with the roll out of every domain extn under the sun, it all got a bit devalued. Like you, if I don't use them, I now let them expire, and force myself not to buy any new ones

If someone wants to offer me a

Hi Steve,

I can't help my self with some domains. I recently bought a domain for $1,000, negotiated down from about $1,900 but it's one I am going to use a project and it was the dot com, and as it's going to be an international site, I wanted the dote, I did not want a dot net or a dot org.

I am like you. I probably estimate I own close to a 1,000 domain, most of them are keyword based, and for most I don't have regrets because one side of my business is the service industry, and I have managed to survive so far over the years with hardly ever needing PPC and it's nearly all been natural search done by an amatuer like me, a DIY job. For example, I recently bought www.iphonerepair.org I think I paid $300 or $400 for it. Although I have not started using it, I just installed a site, I thought, if I get 5 pieces of business then it pays for itself, it's a top level exact match domain. Wheras, I own www.iphonerepairworkshop.co.uk and it's not a great domain but it ranks OK in London, and gets business. What do you think, I paid too much for the dot org?

I am also no longer interested in the iPhone repair business. It's because people want it instantly, whereas with iPads, Laptops and other repair, people are happy to wait a day or two.

damm it, after putting this reply I just realised the forum does not show the URL, but gives the page titles with links

There you go, updated it!

I think the Google EMD update last year probably sunk the market a bit, but if there's a particular URL you are after, then it's worth holding out.

I wanted mylocalservices.com back in 2006 but it had a US site on it, and they weren't interested in selling. When we launched MLS in the US, I had to buy mylocalservices.us but periodically kept asking the .com owners if they wanted to sell up. Then last year they finally agreed, and I got it for $1k. It was more vanity, I really wanted the URL, rather it being worth megabucks. But just goes to show, you can wear people down

I recently changed my view. I think the 2 TLD's that matter are dot com's and dot co.uk

I just to a look at a mylocalservices.com since you are targeting US business I think it's essential you have the dot com. I think in the US, the dot com is a must. If the business is making money, then even $2,000 would have probably been worth it my opinion. But that's just an opinion, not a business case.

The most I have ever spent was $1,000 recently. I have bought about 3 or 4 domains in the $300/$400 price mark. Apart from 1, which I have not used, which I will sell, probably get the same money as what I paid for it, the rest I am using or I am going to use. The dot com's being as rare as they are, I think it's the reality of business now that you must be willing to pay a little bit for your good domain, or settle for a rubbish domain.

I bought the domain, not only because they had the words that i wanted, not from a keyword or SEO point of view, but, I think of sites that targets worlwide audience, and I believe most of the world overwhelmingly know dot com, so I could not settle for a net or dot org.
