Google has completely re-written it's algorithm and named it Hummingbird. Google announced it on it's 15th birthday. With this change, Google started to understand a query like a human being. More powerful knowledge graph. What do you think about SEO in upcoming years? richardfinch
The Hummingbird update was a redesign of the search index to allow more complex semantic style searches. There is a good discussion on the new Semantic search here: Semantic Search Marketing & Structured Data - what is it? But in reality, the Hummingbird update got rolled out, and who if anyone saw any change in their traffic/conversions? So we are talking about an evolving process, which to be fair for SEO, has been the trend since 2000. SEO/SEM/Digital Marketing or just Marketing, call it what you may. The titles may change, the techniques and methods will change, but the object will remain the same. More targeted traffic and conversions. How things will pan out with all seeing all knowing Knowledge Graph, we will have to wait and see. My gut feel is the big boys will start voting with their feet and we will start to see more competition. Bing finally seems to be waking up. With partnerships with Facebook, Apple, and now big sites like Trip Advisor, maybe website owners will soon have a choice, removing Google dependence. Once that happens, the mantle of power is handed back to siteowners, removing some of the harsher and continual changes and updates that we've seen over the last 2 years, some good, some not so good! I think the future for SEO as we know it will be more focused with on site design, ensuring optimised pages, site speed, semantic markup etc, and less focused on traditional spammy link building, which isn't a bad thing! ![]() |
