Community Inspiration for 2014?

As Jan comes to a close, everyone should have their marketing plan and business strategy in place for 2014, and be starting to apply it.

But was having a chat with someone recently who works as a sole trader, and a recent forum post made me think of the same subject, and that's accountability and motivation for small business owners.

It's easy to tell yourself that you will get a few more customers, or you have a good plan for the year. But if no one is pressuring you for results because you work for yourself, it's easy for the New Year marketing motivation to go the same way as the January diet and the gym membership

How about nailing your colours to the mast, and making some 2014 predictions that we can come back and analyze in December. Can be nice and high level, or as detailed as you like. If you don't deliver, doesn't matter, as long as you can understand why and not repeat the same mistakes. But at least you know you can't sit back or make excuses for not growing

So I'll go first.

Plan as of 1st Jan: I'm going to grow overall revenue by 20% and increase our Social Media exposure.

Grow Twitter from 1280 followers to 3000
Grow FB page from 420 likes to 2000
Grow G+ page from 84 followers to 500
Increase Forum Interaction and grow membership.

Be interesting to see the results in December, but nothing like a bit of public pressure to add some incentive

So anyone else fancy setting some targets and comparing in 12 months?

Well, I've been on my back with flu since Boxing day so I've kind of missed January altogether. So my intentions for the year will be to offload some of the work I do onto others. I'm toying with the idea of having a dedicated sales rep as I can end up having to visit several different properties a day and it does seem to take forever ping ponging emails on enquiries and so forth. I'm also considering taking on an apprentice. General enquiries are pretty good, however turning these into actual jobs is somewhat difficult as customers generally have no idea of the cost of materials or the time it takes to install heating systems.
I've kind of given up on Twitter and Google + for the time being as for me it is far to time consuming although I frequently get new followers on Twitter on a weekly basis, I'm not entirely sure what they are following as I haven't written anything for nearly 2 years on there. As for Facebook, I'm currently paying around

Thanks,
Barney

Nice one Barney.

Anyone else want to put a public stake in the ground and set some 2014 targets?

Remember the well worn but relevant Einstein cliche quote:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I join late this forum so i want to give my views here:

You need to take your internal customers (employees) into confidence, need to make them happy, need to make them more excited and need to provide them facilities they want. If you can do these things then no one can stop you in succeeding because they are internal customers if they are happy then they can make external customers happy.

Thanks,

So is that your plan? (which was the point of the thread). You are going to start making your employees happy?

Just checking my progress so far:

Grow Twitter from 1280 followers to 3000 - currently 1676 on target
Grow FB page from 420 likes to 2000 - currently 1346 well on target
Grow G+ page from 84 followers to 500 - currently 127 must try harder
Increase Forum Interaction and grow membership. Work in progress!

Hey Steve,

You here too welcome. That is my thinking and i do not have employees for me. If any organisation have the inspiration i suggested then organisation will surly get success. If anyone like this ok, otherwise everyone have their own parameters.

Thank You

Hi Aaron

The point of the thread is your objectives, not anyone elses. So what are your objectives or goals for 2014?

Then we can touch base in 12 months and see how you've done
