Hadnt really paid much attention to all this Scottish Independence, be a shame if they did vote yes, but it doesnt really affect me, or much so i'd notice but this just caught my eye -

Standard Life plans for Scots exit
One of Scotland's biggest employers is considering moving some of its operations out of the country as part of contingency plans being lined up in the event of a vote in favour of independence.

Wow - hadnt really thought of a Financial Institution as big as that even consider moving due to a YES vote, even RBS are quoted as saying that although they are political neutral they could suffer as a result to their credit rating.

Seems there is a lot at stake i'd not even thought about!

So what do you think - are we/they better off independent, or should they stay?

You know what? I have no feelings towards Scotland one way or another, in fact I don't even think about the country, I've always thought of the United Kingdom as being one country. I think they have far more to lose if they do decided to break away and become independent, I'm not even sure what they have to gain by becoming independent. My main concern is where we're going with Europe and the sooner we have a referendum the better........

Thanks,
Barney

To be honest I always just saw us as one Country too, i dip in & out of Wales quite frequently, dont see it as leaving the Country, same applies to Scotland!

Lets hope they see sense & stick around.

Now Europe is a different topic - as the Shepard said to his dog - lets get the flock out of there!

It's an odd one. I always used to think it was just an anecdotal fantasy that normally came up after a few beers with Scottish mates. I can't believe how seriously it's been taken, and the fact there has been a meeting of NATO to discuss defence post split, talks on currency etc.

Our little Island is hardly the largest Country in the World, but we have to be the most argumentative and tribal race on Earth

I am baffled how we managed to achieve the worlds largest Empire, when we can't get on with people 30 miles up the road because they talk funny or support another football team.

I think it's madness for the UK to break up, and the reality is, there are more Scots living in London than there are in Scotland. It's a shame all this Nationalistic fervour can't be put to a more useful purpose, like generating decent businesses, inventing new technology or being a magnet for growth and investment. Instead it's all bout quibbling over North Sea resources which have peaked and are now in decline, and the age old argument, politics and power.

I doubt the average Scot or English bod in the street will see any advantages if we all split, and as Barney says, we should be looking more closely at Europe.

The arguments for and against an independent Scotland continue as we get ever closer to finding out if Scotland will vote end it's union with England.

The latest seems to be around energy, as the Westminster Government announces it may not buy electricity from an independent Scotland. Which could be a major issue as Scotland is only connected to the rest of the UK via the National Grid, unlike England which is connected Europe.

I suspect we will see a lot more dirty tactics from both camps, but I hope it doesn't create any long term bad blood, regardless of how the vote goes.

The more you analyse it though, the crazier it seems to even consider separating.

...and the politics intensifies...

"Scottish government agencies Scottish Enterprise and Visit Scotland have quit business lobby organisation CBI after it formally backed the campaign against independence."
