I think I'm getting a bit confused here, will they hold any value as far as the search engines go in relation to page position? Secondly I thought Google had previously punished sites that had a domain name which contained text that would give it a high ranking, but had little or no content on the site itself. Today I have pre-ordered a few domains, not that I want to use them more to do with preventing others from getting them. I know it seems mean, but I guess that's business. Mind you others may also have pre-ordered the same domains....

Thanks,

From what ive read, these new ones like xyz.builder carry no power when it comes to the actual domain extension. So the builder extension would have no keyword value. I wouldnt buy any, you could spend a fortune trying to lock out competitors.

I have no idea what the value is in Google terms for the urls, but i know i wouldn't want my competitors using the same url, save for the . biz, . eu, . uk etc.

Ok you wont need all of them but i'm with Barney, it cant hurt to take the top few urls out from the mix - can it?

Ok point taken buy the obvious ones to block comp, and maybe an industry specefic. But you need to draw the line and a lot of people get suckered into buying pointless domains. Rem you dont own a domain, you rent it. The more you have, more rent you pay

I think that this is very new for Google and their algorithms, so it may be just too early to justify the real value of these domains. However, I do believe they are excellent to show your business, especially if you needed to purchase the domain not very connected with your name (because, e.g. someone else has already bought the original one)

Anyway, they don't cost too much (I've seen offers of £15.99 or less per year), which isn't a fortune, especially if you buy the one that you really fancy.

one big problem is people are so used to the original lot (.com, .co.uk etc) that they might type in one of those by habit, and get led nowhere......

do agree with the "buy to block" idea though , dont want somebody using your sites name to boost their own lol
