This really winds me, staged car crashes and insurance fraud in general. Other than being dangerous when innocent people get crashed into, it impacts all of us as our premiums go up

BBC News

"Fake car crashes helped to push the level of insurance fraud to a record £1.3bn in 2013, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI)"

Obviously the penalties for tackling this are working well

Happened to me last week, coming out of trading estate there was just me and another driver on the road, no other vehicles at all. Other driver pulled alongside, wound down his window and said "that's a nice van I'm going to smash in to it" driving of a bit shocked to hear what he'd just said to me thinking he was probably joking, within 2 minutes my van was as he stated smashed and hit in the rear. I then pulled of the main road to get his details and he just drove past laughing.

Thanks,
Barney

Bloody hell!!! Makes your blood boil.

I know you get the usual "as long as you are ok" sentiments, and "it can be replaced", which is true. But it still screws your life up while you have to sort everything out, lost revenue for having a van off the road, increased premiums, mental stress...

I wonder if they have the same thing in America, or if the thought of someone blasting away with a handgun is a good deterrent!

Actually happened to the ex wife last year - car 2 in front of her jammed on the brakes, car in front stopped, she didnt & hit them. All got out, everyone ok - next you hear they all have severe whiplash.

Her insurers are contesting!

Insurance always seems to get bad press, but you never hear of the good stories or the claims that are paid out in days when bad weather hits, or the claims they do contest.

Problem is, contesting a claim can be just as expensive as just paying out so they do have a very fine line to balance.

Fraud is fraud though, anyone found out should be severely punished, but that just pushes their premiums up, so what happens, they drive round uninsured - its a vicious cycle.

Now bring back flogging
