Every time I see a gas holder now I chuckle as it reminds me of when we drove through Brum on the M6 and I had to explain to the wife that the gas tank wasn't broken, but but was empty which was why you could only see the skeleton frame.
So it seems these iconic/ugly/eyesore depending on view point are set to disappear for good as the National Grid who says they are no longer needed, starts to dismantle them and make a few quid by flogging the land
According to the beeb they have been around for 200 years, didn't realise they had been around for that long!
