If you are in the office rental business, then time to start working on a new business plan, or at least if you believe the academic boffins!
"According to the expert panel, by 2025 technology will allow us to conjure workspaces out of thin air by using interactive surfaces.
Holographic teleconferencing and virtual "dry runs" of projects will consign old office templates to the dustbin.
In their place, multiple surfaces in the home, or shared work hub, will be coated with digitally enabled "smart" paint that will project 3D avatars of colleagues at a single touch."
BBC News - The workplace of 2025 will be wherever you want it
...hmmm having worked from home, it's the spontaneous office banter that I always missed. Will cracking jokes with holigram Harry be the same?
HAHA I love that Idea but agreed - don't think you can really replicate the buzz of a real office. enterprisepe
There will always be a need for an "office", as people crave human interaction. The demand and the need may be lower, but it will still exist. Ryan
I have a virtual office business.....you have just given me an idea to add a new service....a Virtual Boss....only indizine indizine
I work from home as well, and it gets a little difficult when you talk to your boss and not sure if they're joking or being serious. I think the 3D avatar might only work if it has facial expressions perhaps lol. I prefer working like this though, it gives me the best of both worlds and I am here with my girls at home when they get home from school. I like the improvements they've been talking about though, but that's just me being a tech nut ![]() Thanks, Dreamraven
The futute will be dominated by technology. If the offices are based in different locations, virtual office concept will surely be implemented in the future. RachaelJetkins
I read an article on a related note, Study: 58% of UK workers expect the office to be extinct by 2021 — Tech News and Analysis the basic story being that 58% of UK workers expect the standard office as we know it to be extinct by 2021 and 56% said they expect to spend less time commuting (will we all be working from home instead of sitting on the train to work?). While I don't think the office is going to vanish any time soon, virtual working is definitely becoming more popular. Melanie
Wonder what impact it'll have on our social skills if we all work at home and only deal with people we like? ![]() Linda CareersPartnershipUK
“Wonder what impact it'll have on our social skills if we all work at home and only deal with people we like? ![]() Interesting thought. Maybe it will be like driving and the side affect of road rage, ie you feel braver and more confident in your car and become naturally more aggressive. In the social media world everyone has an opinion and some people can be more vocal, aggressive, trolling etc. Maybe this will transform how we interact with each other in the real world ![]()
