Was actually looking at a listing on our site, which led me to their website, which then led me to this article - Criminals get better insurance - but not speeding motorists

Fascinating story dates back a couple of months. In essence if you get sent to prison for a particular crime, you previously had to disclose the conviction for several years, just like you do with a motoring offence.

However recent changes in the Law now state you no longer have to disclose criminal convictions after they are spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act but motorists are still required to inform their insurers.

As the article states, the Law is literally is full of holes - for example

You serve up to 6 months in prison for a driving offence, the offence is spent after 2 years, but say you get points and a fine, without prison time you HAVE to disclose it for 5 years.

My softer side, i can see the benefits of an offender being able to get insurance at a reasonable rate otherwise there would be no incentive to insure, however there has to be a balance as the motorist will feel picked on, well more than we already do.

Heard this briefly on the radio this morning as i was getting up. Having read the story not sure what all the fuss is about. Full BBC Story

Seems Instagrams rules and terms of use are quite clear -

"You may not post violent, nude, partially nude, discriminatory, unlawful, infringing, hateful, pornographic or sexually suggestive photos or other content via the service."

That seems fairly self explanatory to me and if you don't like the rules then don't use the service - its simple isn't it?

We are a family friendly site and do not allow any "adult content" that may offend younger users, to the point that we actually turn away custom.

I don't think its censorship, there are plenty of other platforms one could use if you want to pose semi naked.

Havent read the full story, but imagine the fuss if a bloke had said that!?

I did have my kids when i was younger, well 28 & 32, the ex wife being a year younger. Without being sexist it seemed traditional to do that. Yes woman are having children later in life now but how healthy is it for them to do so?

Seem to recall and these facts may be wrong and 17 years out of date, but we had to have a test for our first son as the blood work came back with a high chance of a problem - it should have been somewhere around 1 in 5000 for her age group, but that increased to around 1 in 50 for a woman in her 40's for the same problem. Those kind of figures can't be ignored.

I am NOT saying woman can't have a career, but have a family and carry on, but IMHO have the family on the younger side as its much better for your body & health.

Just reading this article on BBC news

Is it really the shop keepers responsibility to ensure school children make healthy choices?

As a child i walked a moderate distance to my middle school, passing 2 sweet shops en-route, one practically in the school compound! Yes i occasionally popped in and bought penny & halfpenny chews to consume on my way home, but then again i had a proper cooked tea once i got in.

Surely its down to parents to ensure their kids eat healthy and to supply lunch, or money to be spent on hot school dinners. Both my kids schools now implement some kind of cashless system to allow them to have food in the canteen rather than walk out of the school to the local chippy.

Stop blaming everyone for trying to run a business and look closer to home for your child's welfare and ensure they have proper food when they get in, not some cardboard burger (36 for a £2 from certain stores!) that you nuke and start preparing home cooked real meat, potato & veg.

Diet and health starts and remains the parents responsibility - more exercise and less junk = healthy child!

News article recently on BBC  Plastic £5 note first for Great Britain

Do think as a Nation we have gone soft.

Only 30-40 years ago Police were perhaps feared is the wrong word but could still command huge respect.

Kids are taught at a very early age that they have rights, whilst i totally accept that they do, they are not taught to respect their elders, the police or even the teachers anymore, instead they are taught they can do what they like when they like and "i don't have to do that if i don't want to!"

Society is self imploding due to a lack of respect to Law & Order.

Try it in a taxi......”

Been in a couple of taxis over the last few months, both carried a card machine, subject to a surcharge of course!

Pubby - sure i saw in the news recently that the £5 note was going to be replaced with a "plastic" note - will do some digging and re-post if i find it

I've just said in another post i was in London last weekend - i didn't go to the Palace per-say as we had done it before but looking up The Mall as we crossed over it, there were hundreds of tourists circling around the Palace taking photos etc.

London does attract a lot of tourists naturally but i do believe that a good chunk of them come to see the Palace as part of their visit.

I have no qualms with the Royal family as long as they pull their weight, but the hangers on should be culled & cut off!

Congestion Charges up by 15% 3rd June 2014 9:46 AM

I was in London last weekend. It wasn't as busy as i thought it may have been.

Parked on the outskirts and walked in to do the touristy bit with my son, my uncle & aunt came along too. Prices for everything were ridiculous which i guess you'd expect but why do we tolerate it?

To cap it off, as my aunt & uncle were tired we decided to get a taxi back to the car, 4.3 miles (according to my phone) from Westminster - £15.20 later we arrived - ouch ! Tube would have been more.

In hindsight we should have driven all the way in, no Congestion charge on weekends

Did think about a camera in the car- thought CCTV was a better idea as it would act as a deterrent.

In talks now as to whether i can rent a garage - problem is its a wide car and i'm not convinced i will be able to get it in, well i probably could but then i'm stuck in the car !
