King Juan Carlos Abdicates 2nd June 2014 4:55 PM

With news emerging that the King of Spain is starting abdication proceedings, citing age as his main reason, is it time our own Queen followed suit or are you a believer in King/Queen for life?

Would it hurt tourism and or businesses if our own Monarchy changed hands, if so would HM Prince Charles make a good King?

Congestion Charges up by 15% 2nd June 2014 3:55 PM

I was down in central London a few times for work last year, i did drive. Didn't actually realise how small an area the congestion charge actually covered, but as i went to just outside Westminster i did have to pay the charge.

According to my email Barney, it looks like yours could be going up  - full email below -

I am writing to let you know that from Monday 16 June, the Congestion Charge will increase to £11.50 per day.

The charge increase will help to maintain the relative effectiveness of the scheme, and is in line with inflation, other transport costs and public transport fares which have increased over time. We reinvest all our income to run and improve your services.

You may wish to consider registering a credit or debit card to use CC Auto Pay, which automatically bills you each time you drive within the zone during charging hours, at a reduced daily charge of £10.50. Registration is £10 per vehicle per year and you can register up to five vehicles on one account.

Congestion Charges up by 15% 2nd June 2014 1:33 PM

Just had an email through advising me that the London Congestion charge is going up to £11.50 from £10 on 16/6 - thats an increase of 15%!!!!!

The email goes on to explain that the increase is inline with inflation and "other transport costs" ...

"The charge increase will help to maintain the relative effectiveness of the scheme, and is in line with inflation, other transport costs and public transport fares which have increased over time. We reinvest all our income to run and improve your services. "

I believe currently inflation is around 1.7-1.8% - is it me or do those figures just not add up?

24hrs in one? ........... Yeah that's going to teach them

I actually meant 24 hours in the stocks, 24 hours of public humiliation

The cost of water is going up.... 2nd June 2014 11:02 AM

Pleased you got it sorted Ray, felt a Clive style rant brewing in the background.

Your situation was totally unacceptable and really a warning to everyone else on a meter, double check your usage!!

Theft and petty vandalism is just malicious, of course there are much worse crimes and Prison is the way forward.

Seems i'm in the minority for hanging etc for the more serious crimes, but for petty crimes, including the Amoeba that keyed my car, why can't we bring back the stocks?

24 hours in one surely would rehabilitate them?

Having calmed down a touch from earlier, rang and reported it to the Police, not much really they can do, but at least its on record.

They suggested i put up CCTV, i'm doing battle with my Council over whether i need planning permission to erect a fence on my "drive" and if i also need permission to drive over their pathway to gain access to my property - all a bit deep and long winded but its not as straight forward as driving from road to drive. - dont know if this image helps, thats my old MG on my property

Anyway question is, does anyone else have CCTV monitoring - anyone recommend a brand or type ?

Waaaaaaaay ahead of you after my vandalised car this morning.

Just give me 5 mins with them, thats all i need to extract 3 or 4 teeth, or a few finger nails ..... they wouldnt do it again lol

Is it Iran or Iraq that chops off hands for theft, now thats what i call a deterrent

Insurance fraud at record high 30th May 2014 10:38 AM

Actually happened to the ex wife last year - car 2 in front of her jammed on the brakes, car in front stopped, she didnt & hit them. All got out, everyone ok - next you hear they all have severe whiplash.

Her insurers are contesting!

Insurance always seems to get bad press, but you never hear of the good stories or the claims that are paid out in days when bad weather hits, or the claims they do contest.

Problem is, contesting a claim can be just as expensive as just paying out so they do have a very fine line to balance.

Fraud is fraud though, anyone found out should be severely punished, but that just pushes their premiums up, so what happens, they drive round uninsured - its a vicious cycle.

Now bring back flogging
