Do you still keep cash in your pocket?

The British Retail Consortium has found in a survey that the average shopper uses cash less and less. Not really that surprising news, and you can even buy a McDonald's burger on your debit card or a pint down the pub these days.

I must admit, I like to keep a tenner in my wallet, but I reckon 90% of anything I buy these days is done with a card, even if it's just a sandwich at tescos.

But how about businesses? Other than just online, are there many businesses that no longer bother with cash? Or can you see a time coming when doing the bank run and cashing up will be a thing of the past?

Try it in a taxi......

On a serious note, I don't really keep any money on me mainly because I tend to blow it on tat or it will subconsciously tell me I'm flush and I'll pop into somewhere like the Apple Store and buy something that I've managed to live without but somehow now think its a must have gadget. Generally I just go around with a debit / credit card and £30 x £1 coins for parking in Kensington.

I seem to keep mine in the washing machine at the moment! It's certainly clean. On the plus side it's great when you find some £1 coins not so good for notes, that's where I need Aussie dollar notes as they are plastic and would probably make it through.

Been in a couple of taxis over the last few months, both carried a card machine, subject to a surcharge of course!

Pubby - sure i saw in the news recently that the £5 note was going to be replaced with a "plastic" note - will do some digging and re-post if i find it
