How so? Businesses lose millions daily because of people that just refuse to pay their bills ( I am not talking about those that can't, but those that have the money, but refuse to part with it). Even after trying to get the money that's owed to them in the most courteous of ways, some still prefer not to pay. I mean, some even find ways of avoiding the repo-man.

The economy, as it is, kills new and existing companies the same way, and if you are owed thousands, or even hundreds of thousands from clients that have decided not to pay you, you would have to resort to pretty much what you can to recover your losses so that you can stay in business and not have to worry about having to file for bankruptcy or even worse, selling your business and joining the ranks of the unemployed.

I think this is a step to far, In my books it is invading peoples personal intellectual space.

This may sound abstract but I feel like social media in some ways is a non tangible extension of somebodies mind. Being stalked here is WRONG.
I wish I could say this story is a shame, I shop in Tesco over here, generally out of the lack of other options.

Despite the convenience of these megastores, the unfortunate side effect of them moving into a new territory is to destroy the small shops in the local area.

My one pet hate is the fact that small local butchers are on the decrease, it would be nice to go into a local butcher and get a personal service and buy locally reared meat.
Nokia slides into survival mode... 19th June 2012 10:09 AM
Good point about the puddle of water, but saying that my girlfriend has that ridiculously popular Apple mobile phone, She's dropped it down the toilet, in cups of tea (Don't ask me how), and on the floor numerous times. After a little time on the radiator in a bowl of rice it still works perfectly.

I'd like to ask you all this question, what company has been able to dodge becoming redundant or losing market share ?

I can easily see Apple going in the same direction as Nokia, they're pushing out the products too thick and fast, were already on version 3 of the ipad and soon we'll be on version 5 of the Iphone. And what has releasing new products faster actually done for Apple, yes its boosted the bank balance but they have also made costly mistakes that if repeated could damage the brand, some how everybody has forgotten the majour design flaws in the iphone 4 model.

In short I think their slowly but surely devaluing the brand, give it a few years and maybe their be in the same boat as Nokia.

UK and EU Cookie Policy 22nd May 2012 10:41 AM
I think this new policy is simply comical.

I do unfortunately agree that the internet in many cases is the wild wild west, we do need some form of regulation but the problem is when any Tom Dick or Harry can start a website in 15 minutes how do you go about enforcing such laws and policies. If the government were serious about enforcement they would need more staff members than the entire police force of the UK.

What I expect to happen is that the big internet sites will fall in line, since their on the radar of the authorities, if they don't they risk being made an example of. but of course the government won't apply the same rationale and stringent rules to their own websites.

Of course there will be a large proportion of sites that simply ignore the legislation or don't even know about it !!!
Even CEO's blag their CV's! 22nd May 2012 10:34 AM
This is absolutely hilarious !

I would have to agree with JP, its a very common problem, in most instances it probably doesn't massively effect business negatively. The problem is when candidates tell lies in the league of the film "Catch me if you can". It doesn't happen often but occasionally you her about nurse and doctors claiming to have qualifications they actually don't have. This is potentially a life threatening situation.

In the debt management industry faking qualifications could have massive business implications. Missing a deadline and filling in a form incorrectly could actually damage a persons credit score and financial situation, very delicate business.
Crazy but I don't really go to sleep til around 12.

Burning the candle at both ends.

If I get up at that time then I get to miss all the traffic and I get loads of time in the gym. Get fit plus miss traffic, cant go wrong !
Hey I get up at 5.30 and go straight to the gym and workout for about an hour and ten minutes. This really gets the brain switched on in the morning.

I'll get into the office at about 8.45, check emails and get prepared for the day. Although saying that I check my email around the clock so I must do some other stuff at this time. Perhaps reply to emails too.
When your home is your office 23rd April 2012 11:49 AM
I can understand why working at home would be horrible for some people, just posted on a thread in this forum about motivation. I'd say that the two topics are closely related. Working from home would be hard if you have low motivation.

You really need to be a disciplined person to work from home, TV, games console all in arms reach, not many people can do it.

That's without mentioning the fact that if your work from home your generally alone all day whilst everybody else is out at work. So loneliness also because a factor.

I worked from home for about two years, for the first year I couldn't believe how lucky I was, no travel costs, no additional cost for lunch, clocking off and being on the sofa within a minute of it striking half 5.

Eventually loneliness slipped in. I literally would not have the need to talk to anyone all day. SO my girlfriend would get home with stories about work and I would have nothing to say. People that go out for work take for granted that a big part of work is the social aspect.
What online advertising do you use? 23rd April 2012 10:22 AM
My business is relatively new and like you I don't have a huge advertising budget by any means.

At the moment its a 50/50 strategy split between SEO and display advertising. SEO is of course a fundamental part of running a online business.

Display advertising is good generally from a branding perspective, Conversion rates are low and so is the average click through & CPC, but what you get in return is immense. Display advertising allows me to get my brand out there and seen by people that otherwise would of never heard of me. Plus the fact I can get coverage of sites where the print equivalent would literally cost me thousands !!!
Motivation 23rd April 2012 10:13 AM
Hey lads and ladies, below is how I motivate myself:

1. I attend the gym every morning. I believe achieving physical goals puts you in the "winning" state of mind to achieve business goals.

2. Keep photos of my family on my desk. When the chips are down I take a look at them and they remind me what I'm doing it all for, A better life for my family.

3. Photo's of the things that I want. My computer desktop background is a picture of a Porsche Caymen (My dream car). Plus images of Luxury homes and other possessions I would like.

4. The final point is a bit of a funny one. I simply have 100% confidence and belief that I'm on the right road and I will make it. If you don't have this belief it will be hard to make it.
