PostsWhen we downsize 20th April 2010 8:23 AM And last time I checked (which was about 3 or 4 years ago) it was a snip at just When we downsize 19th April 2010 10:15 PM That one has the 8mph for roads which is quite enough for me - went up on two side wheels going round a mini-roundabout once, talk about a brown trousers moment! I think there is a very good reason why I can't have a driver's license, I really shouldn't go above walking speed. I do still aspire to owning a Tramper one day though. Not so fast, but it does real off-roading, survives sand, ice, snow, forests, and even has a cigarette lighter socket for heated gloves, boots, GPS, etc. When we downsize 19th April 2010 5:47 PM Yeah, but be honest now, you can only go 4mph on the pavement... Here's mine (warning, it's an mpeg, plays in Quicktime). Rant time 19th April 2010 12:21 PM Only trouble there is that bringing legal actions against people takes time, money, energy... all things which are in short supply when you're also trying to move house, raise kids, run a small business, and not have your head explode from stress. Rant time 19th April 2010 11:15 AM Oh Trena, how utterly crap. Renting can be awful. I've never been able to decide who's worse - the experienced, 'professional' developers with dozens of properties running scam after scam on their tenants because they know what they can get away with? or the inexperienced landlords who leapt onto the buy-to-let bandwagon to tweak their kids' place on the school catchment area and are now surprised to find that there's some responsibilities, too? There probably are landlords out there who charge reasonable rent, keep their properties in good nick, communicate with their tenants, and refund deposits without having to be chased... shame I've never met one. Dragons' Den tax rift escalates 16th April 2010 6:24 PM Oh, they will get every last penny to which they are entitled. But I'm not going to be doing my tax return and saying "you know what? I'm not going to claim any business mileage or other Allowable Expenses, because I want to pay more tax!" Dragons' Den tax rift escalates 16th April 2010 6:10 PM I definitely can't imagine that Mr Bannatyne would have got to where he is today by giving away more money than he absolutely had to in tax. Giving it away for products, sure, giving it away for charity and the attendant positive publicity, absolutely, but giving it away to HMRC? Either pull the other one or fire the accountant. Late payments 'hurting small and medium-sized firms' 15th April 2010 1:56 PM Yep. Only one, my other clients are fine, but one guy has just about wound through every excuse in the book - combined of course with the promise of more work to come. I want to believe that the cheque really did get lost in the post, that the bank transfer will definitely clear in the next couple of days, that I haven't been scammed... unfortunately optimism only gets you so far. ![]() Drink free beer while working! 15th April 2010 12:15 PM Brownies sounds like good therapy to me ![]() Drink free beer while working! 15th April 2010 12:10 PM Sorry. I'm in a heated-debate mindset at the moment. But for some reason only about issues I'm not so bothered about. So I'm a non-drinker arguing about (not against) beer, a non-smoking non-driver arguing about (not against) smoking in cars, a self-employed person who is also an employer arguing for (not against) employee rights...
