I think it'll make more sense for some businesses than others.

You take something like Innocent Smoothies, where their USP is their socially-responsible corporate ethic and at the core of the whole business, then removing the tree-hugging is going to hugely change the company to the point where it is no longer the same company. They aren't just selling fruit drinks - they're selling the whole organic recycled health sunshine positive vibes and a big hug.
iPhone has become the Ford of phones 23rd April 2010 12:09 PM
Does an iPhone only last 12 months, though?

The thing about the iPhone and the Android phones is that the functions and features are generally added by the user. Ten years ago, the only thing you really put into a phone was your contacts list. Today, my boyfriend and I both have the G1, both bought about 12 months ago, and because of the Android Marketplace, our phones, identical out of the box, involve entirely different user experiences. We've invested a lot of time getting them set up 'just so' which we're not likely to sacrifice just for the sake of having the latest model. There's also the issue that if we want new software features, we can download them - we don't have to buy a whole new phone unless there's a substantial hardware difference.

Hey, glad to hear that. Hope you settle in nice and smoothly - or as smoothly as possible, anyway.
A few gone AWOL 23rd April 2010 9:20 AM
I've been here ALL the time. And here is my homework. And here is my extra-credit project. And an apple.

But I won't be here much next week.
Employee full-time or part-time? 22nd April 2010 8:33 PM
The bit that gets me is that positions which don't involve a desk, chair, and computer access, DO involve constantly working, and generally pay LESS than
I feel like I have to vote - maybe it's a female thing, I'm very very aware that it's still not so long ago that women were going to incredible lengths to get me the right to vote, and that I shouldn't just dismiss that with a "can't be bothered".

I can't bring myself to vote for either the Labour or the Conservative candidate, locally. I've had to deal with both of them in their "professional" capacities, one as an MP, the other as a councillor, and I was let down by both of them. But I need to find out more about the other candidates - no info through the door about any of them yet.

Meanwhile, having fun with the #nickcleggsfault hashtag on twitter.

Wow! Were the grandchildren allowed back into it, or were they autoclaved and shrink-wrapped first?

Nb: Shrink-wrapping children is Wrong.

I work from home, on my own, and it drives me a little bit nuts. But it beats the pants off sitting at home, on my own, staring into space with my brain dribbling out of my ears.

I often find myself caught in a bit of a paradox. On the one hand, I hate having tasks "hanging over me" so I tend to clear the decks as soon as stuff comes in (personal bugbear: when a letter arrives in the Saturday post requiring me to call a company whose phone lines are only open Mon-Fri, it irks me all weekend). On the other hand, I hate not having anything to get on with. That's where online networking has saved my sanity. It counts as both a productive work activity and social interaction - plus I can do as much or as little of it as fits around my other tasks.

It sounds really horrible, but apart from having to find somewhere else to buy all the things I would have once automatically bought at Woolworths, and an awful lot of DOOOOOM! being reported in the news, I've barely noticed the recession. But then I'm not a homeowner and I have no debt.
