“"Parameters for going up in the search results"
That Lina is known as the Google algorithm, the holy grail of how to get your keywords and site to the top of page 1, and the exact factors and how it works are known only to Google!
All we can do is go from personal experience and each others results to try and figure it out.
I did a 101 post which may help http://www.mylocalforums.com/seo-webrankings-google-yahoo-bing-etc/846-search-engine-optimization-101-laymen-newbies.html
But for my money, ref your competitor in question, I'll bet he has a lot of links linking back to with decent anchor text, ie the keyword you are competing for.
Copied the anchor text bit from my 101 post:
3. Anchor text

I must be missing something when looking at my competitors in the G search results.
I have taken one of them as an example and analysed it as much as I could using some of the available tools.
My website currently has PR2 with 380 links back, where some of them from websites with PR5
The competitor's website has PR1 and only a few links back from the websites with PR 0-2.
The other factor is competitor's website is there since 2007 while mine is just a couple of month.
My website's content is far more complete comparing to the competitor's content which is minimum.
Even after the G's recent update my website is still below the competitor's site for each keyword in the search result window.
Why?
Where is the logic?
What else I am missing?

Page Description 13th March 2010 5:28 PM
When a page is found in google search, it displays the page name in bolt blue and the page description just below it.
So the description is whatever has been defined in the <meta name="description" content=
In my case, for some reason, it displays a few lines from my content text on the page (not even from the top of the page) but not what is actually defined in the meta description.
How to fix this?

Placing videos on my webpage 11th March 2010 10:49 PM
Do videos play any role for SEO at all?
Placing videos on my webpage 11th March 2010 10:30 PM
“hi, how long do the video's last for, and how many you thinking of using
sean”
sean”
From a few seconds to a minute or two maximum.
I am not sure at the moment how many of them I am going to have, just will be adding one or two each time I make a new one.
Just to have them as a gallery of videos I guess
Placing videos on my webpage 11th March 2010 10:11 PM
In addition to a picture gallery of my hairstyles work, I would like to place some videos of my work as well, again for the sake of promotion, web content filling and so on.
What would you recommend the best way of placing videos on my website?
The videos are uploaded on youtube.
So I can either embed them on my webpage and have the actual youtube windows on my page or just have a list of anchored links to my videos on youtube to be open in the new youtube window.
What is the good practice in your opinion to arrange the videos on my page, both from the user experience point of view and SEO?

“Lina, if I were you, I would see an SEO company, or design company, I don't know how to cut hair, it would take me years to learn, and its the same here I am afraid, you can learn SEO yourself, the same as anything else, but it takes a fair while to conquer google.
Don't mean to be harsh, but explaining how it all works takes a long, long time.
You may want to speak to Tomsk on a more business side, as he will be more than likely able to sort all your issues out in half the time, and start getting your site much needed traffic.”

What is the point of the forum then?

Really?
So I should change all ch****ts to iso-8859-1 in each page?
Is the iso-8859-1 the only one to use?
What is this ch****t at all?
What difference does it make?
Why is this important to SE ?

“The board has flagged a word as rude or spam so the starts element should read

c-h-a-r-s-e-t (without the - in between)”
But it is OK to use the "-" between words isn't it?
