Different Ways To Monetize Your Website 25th January 2013 10:47 AM we're hoping to put some tutorials on youtube of how to use our online web application. Free software like CamStudio is a great way of making online demos and tutorials for the likes of youtube. Putting vids on Youtube helps with your traffic, gets you links and helps saves bandwidth. Apple or PC 25th January 2013 10:07 AM I've used VMWare on a large scale for server estates; Microsoft is trying to make significant inroads with it with their equivalent, HyperV, but many established VMWare sites that I know don’t want to migrate. I personally think MS missed the boat on the whole virtualisation concept. I personally found the Windows VMWare player far better at legacy USB support than MS Virtual PC, particularly when running Windows XP 32 bit on a 64 Bit OS host. It was really useful as I had some older scanning hardware that didnt have 64bit drivers. To use USB on Virtual PC, I found that you needed to have the drivers on the host OS (which weren't available in my case), but VMWare doesn't care as you can map the USB port directly into the guest OS. Got a brand new Mac Book in my office that my wife brought home, but I've never really used it as all the developer tools I use are on my PC. It was useful to test our website out on the Mac. Found some issues with Safari, but when we installed Chrome for Mac OSX it worked just like browsing on a PC. Windows OS cell phones! 25th January 2013 10:00 AM never had any problems with it freezing. The lumia was quite cost effective compared to an iPhone but I guess you've got to consider the features that you want and need. I can't say that I've ever wanted to use a mobile to watch movies through a HDMI connection when I have a PC under the telly for that :-) PC Building! 25th January 2013 9:56 AM guess it's ok when you've got the bits to swap about. It's interesting when you hit the on button for the first time on your latest creation to see if it all starts up! I got into building them when I fitted a math co-processor on my 286. Have some adverts had their day? 24th January 2013 7:39 PM Web browsers are a lot better now at natively stopping popups. I remember stuff like pop-up blocker and the "net send" messages that would appear on Windows NT. Where to advertise for less? 24th January 2013 7:14 PM I remember all the effort and cost I used to put in to designing the leaflets, printing folding, stamping. Email is far easier! And I guess with paper based marketing literature, somebody has to type your URL. No longer does the cat have to sit here and help me lick stamps! SMS Marketing 24th January 2013 7:11 PM What are the costs like for SMS marketing? Do you do them yourself or get an external company to send them? I guess most modern phones should be able to open URLs sent by SMS. Will HMV be able to change direction? 12 month update - HMV calls in administrators 24th January 2013 7:05 PM Although I get most of my stuff online, nothing beats going into a store like HMV and picking up a DVD box and reading what's on the back. any one use google adwords 24th January 2013 6:13 PM we've just launched our site using Google PPC and it's been really interesting to tie Adwords into Analytics to track the success of the PPC campaign. We went as far to implement button tracking so we can see how users navigate round the site and where they click to sign up. PPC is good if your launching a web application and you're worried about load on your servers and bandwidth as you can start and stop your campaign whenever you like. If you can get one of Google's free Adwords vouchers, it's great to start you off. One strange thing though, once you've set up a Google account with an email address, you can never register another with the same email ever again (even after cancelling). We found this out as many of Google promotions only work with brand new accounts. |
