1 in 7 UK workers are now self employed 24th February 2014 1:36 PM
I agree with the post above. Also, it might be the case that the taxes are now lower and people feel somewhat encourages to start the new ventures.

The thing is, many people see the good news on TV/Newspapers etc. and start to believe that the economy is really recovering and they are not afraid to run a business and end up with nothing.

All in all, though, the change in the society is also the case. Many youngsters think they would be better off without the boss and they want something more out of your live than just a stability of full-time employment.

The job market is quite flexible now, a few decades ago, having left the school you knew what you'd be doing for the rest of your live. Now, it's not so certain.
In today's marketing world, you need to be really creative, not to go straight to the junk box. Having passed that checkpoint, you need to stand out of some 10-20 messages being sent in business hours mon-fri, so your title must really be bold and non-spammy.

People are trying to impress their potential customers with some kind of innovative way of thinking...

There are some "nice try" messages, or something that is really interesting.

What are the type of messages you'd trash immediately, and what are those ones you'd open?

My options -

TRASHES:
- XYZ, see our picks for this week's SuperAwesomeStuff.com
- This week only, amazing sale up to 50%!

INTERESTING:
- Could your fridge be spamming your friends?
- XYZ, do you think your pet would like an extra treat in the post?

What's your opinion?
I think that Google is merely trying to work for their customers, not the companies trying to make money form being at the top of the search list there. They need to constantly update their algorithm to stay at the top of the market.

From the webmaster / SEO analyst point of view, it's a real nightmare. However, given the number of daily searches we all perform, it would be an absolute disaster not to be able to find that relevant information, the best restaurant in town or a nearby garage.

Spammers never sleep and they are ready to make money on each algorithm's fault. It's good that Google banns these people, but I wouldn't have ever thought it's going to touch the big companies. Thanks for bringing that on!
Mobile apps. Are they worth it? 5th February 2014 8:07 PM
I think there's always a place for an innovative app.

Yes, we've got lots of apps for everything, most of them are rubbish, actually.
In fact, many people try to design apps to compete with the well-known ones and they fail to get enough downloads on the saturated market.

However, my colleague from LA designed an app that enables users to record their thoughts about places they visit. Pretty simple, isn't it?

He's now getting hundreds of downloads and even some US celebrities using the app and tweeting about it!

I think it's always worth breathing some fresh air - if you've got an idea that is different and enough means to design and promote it well, the success is very possible
Email outreach? 30th January 2014 8:35 PM
I think both email and telephone are important. If you make it personal and well-researched, it's nothing better in terms of off-line marketing. A good strategy is to send out email first and make a follow-up phone call to ask how did they like it. It's a very good conversation starer, and can lead do the beginning of friendly business relationship.
PageRank alternatives 22nd January 2014 3:12 PM
Unfortunately, it's our fault, too. We've been so obsessed with keyword density, backlinks, posting everywhere our website, doing everything we could to get better pagerank.

On the other hand, the spammy websites, clogging up search lists have in most cases gone and we need to show some more effort to promote our businesses (it's positive, after all).

Google claims that Social Media play vital role in rating the page under the new scheme - it worked in my cases, have you thought about that?
FourSquare 15th January 2014 1:02 PM
Hi,

They claim to have 45m users, with 5bn check-ins and 1.6m business merchants signed up with them (as of January 2014). I wouldn't say it's a top social media platform, but I know a number of people using it on their smartphones.

If you have a local business and wish to get lots of great reviews that other users can see, I think you should include FourSq in your marketing portfolio. From what I've read before Xmas, they've secured additional $35 million funding in December 2013, so they might come up with some new ideas soon.

Another app (launched recently and loved by some celebrities) is MotorMouth (MotorMouth - Now We're Talkin') - a sort of spoken FourSq, something definitely worth exploring!
Monthly? Quarterly? How has that been going for you? And have you found better results from glam emails with photos and layout or plain text? Thanks in advance for your response!

What is a digital business? 25th October 2013 5:55 AM
I agree that there is much more to the "digital business". We have all been using the internet for some time now so it makes sense that a whole culture and way of doing things would develop around it. I honestly think the digital realm is more powerful than we can imagine.
