I sure most of you know I am a small home business run part time .. I don't have the money or space to buy in stock so buy to order . What are your thoughts in letting a customer know I am buying in his product first. As at the moment I don't I just let them know their order is received and can take 4 days before I dispatch, which I feel like I am lying to the customer in a way.. What would you think if you received a notification on waiting for your item to arrive ,would it put you off or would you suggest something else or OK in what I am doing at the mo

I think I would be a bit puzzled by that message, as normally waiting for 4 days isn't an extremely long time for an online order. That being said, I think you can be honest with your customers and say "dispatched within xxx days" or simply arrange for a more prompt method of delivery.

I think that most customers are concerned with the total amount of time they have to wait for the order. It doesn't matter whether it takes you 1 day to source the item and then 3 days for the item to reach me or it takes you 3 days to get the item and then deliver that within a day. It's 4 days either way.

That's my opinion: as long as you'll inform your customers of the approx. date of delivery, they should be fine.

Really , I thought 4 days for a dispatch would bad ... I bought a Iphone on the weekend and still not received it yet and getting annoyed .. Thanks for reply , Suppose I will leave it as it is then as no one has really complained about the times to be fair .. I just do say on the product pages it can take up to so many days to dispatch

As long as you're upfront about the delivery time it is fine, people won't care where it's from mostly.

In this modern world of drop shipping plenty of firms don't carry stock. With a slick website, drop shipping orders, and a outsourced call centre or VA handling calls, visitors will have no idea if you are operating from a back bedroom or canary wharf

As the others said, 4 days isn't too bad, particularly if you are personalising such as engraving, gift wrapping etc.

Think big

As long as you tell me  the time frame in advance of paying then it wouldn't phase me.

If i paid and then found out its a 4 day delay then yea i will be jumping up & down !

Hi thanks .. I do mention the delay time on all products that are not sent off next day .. With my jewellery I always order 4 or 5 extra items and am building up quite a large supply ,problem now is to find somewhere to keep safe them as a drawer is not working any more, I have pieces of jewellery lying everywhere

It sounds like you're doing really well. Get yourself some decent storage though
