I just put a thread and immediately viewed by 218 people. Is this true? long ago I suspected the number of people viewed my other thread, which has passed 10k.

Hi Ahamad

The page view counter is exactly as it says, and is just a simple page view counter. It blocks out spider visits (or most of the ones we know about), but other than that it is what it is. If you F5 or refresh the page, then you would see it grow by a page view.

Your intro thread "Reach120Years Diet" has to be a forum record, as it is currently showing 12,567 views, and has been one of the most viewed threads in a long time. Obviously it has generated a lot of interest!

I'll be honest it does seem very high for a welcome thread, but it is a contentious issue, so maybe that's the reason. I'll get out developer to check to make sure there isn't an outside script, scraper or bot stuck on the page, but looking at other threads, page counter seems to be working as normal.

Compared with a post Higgers did last week in General Business Discussion about John Lewis which has has 123 page views

Our best one that I'm aware of is our Tax Office thread which currently has 159,644 views, although that has been around for a while.

Will check and get back to you.

Hmm we've done some checking and it's a bot that is doing some heavy duty scraping. Unfortunately they are alternating a wide range of IP's so are getting past our usual filters  For some reason it got hung up on your page

The correct number of page views on your page according to our analytics is 449.

Looking at our tax office thread, it shows publicly as 159,644 page views and our analytics shows 134,286 page views, so not too far off, and the page view counter in the past has been pretty accurate.

Why your page is being targeted I have no idea, but we will continue to investigate.

Update on this.

We've managed to block the bot that was doing the scraping. Looks like it got itself stuck in a loop on a number of pages, one of which was yours.

The page view counter has been reset to exclude this scraper bot and now shows a genuine figure of 514 page views.

Mystery solved and thanks for flagging it
