My broken landline

I know lots of people who wouldn't touch them, but I've recently had to contact TalkTalk.  They provide my landline and broadband.

Engineer at green box across road last Monday afternoon.  Landline rang Monday evening and I thought it was a nuisance call, but could hear dialling in background.  After that, couldn't get dialling tone.  Finally reported it on Wednesday via their website; they diverted landline to mobile.  Another engineer at green box on Wednesday afternoon, advised test would take 24-48 hours.  Finally resolved lunchtime Friday.

It took a while, but everything fine now.  All the staff I dealt with, including Friday's Openreach engineer, were fine, but I'm still wondering why it took three of them to put it right!

Ahh see what it is, where there is a fault with the green box, then they need to get the stripey tent out, because that's where they set the kettle up.

It's a well known fact that tea drinking is a 2 man job

That old photograph reminded me of the old paraffin lamps they used to use to prevent people from falling down holes.... I nicked hundreds as a kid in the hope someone would fall down..... wish I had kept them all as they sell for £25 a pop on ebay....

Thanks,
Barney

Good one Barney!  I also remember the nightwatchman in the stripey tent who had a brazier to keep warm and light from the paraffin lamps around the hole.

Great picture Steve!

Those stripey huts always remind me of an ex-boss and his antics during Rag Week at Birmingham University many, many years ago. He and his mates picked up one of these huts, carried it through New Street Station and put it on a train (to Bristol I think).

Given the other things they did, it was very close between getting their degrees or being excluded. Then there's the story about a famous Birmingham statue and a chamber pot, but I digress

My old man used to work for first the PO, then Telecom. How proud we were when the yellow painted Telecom Morris Minor van turned up on the drive

Anyone remember Buzby...
