How cool is this

I know 3D printing has been around for a while now, but this is the first practical application I've seen, and certainly consigns the good old plaster-cast to the bin.

My first reaction was  - why ? What was wrong with the old casts?

As I have never personally broken a bone I thought back to the time when my younger brother broke his arm (it wasn't my fault - honest  ) and the 6 weeks of itching, impossible bathing/showering and the scream he made when he saw the blade used to cut the cast off.

All of a sudden I get it
