As our twitter trend of the day is #TravelTuesday what could be more relevant to today's forum then the new technology that is currently being developed throughout UK airports today.

So does anyone else hate it when you have to carry your heavy suitcases all through the airport in order to find the right check in desk?

Me too!

With the new 'Robot Smart bags' that are being tested throughout UK airports there is no need to worry about transporting suitcases any longer The 'Robot Smart Bags' allow passengers to pop their bags on to moving robots, scan your boarding ticket to the machine and then before you know it your bag has been transported on to the correct boarding flight. As well as this technology specialists are also discussing the use of electronic bag tags.

Are you bored of the paper tags attached to your luggage? They are not very secure and could easily be ripped off and lost when being transported on to planes. However the new electronic bag tags are not cheap, they are based around buying a particular suitcase where as the scanner is already built in. An app from your phone can track your suitcase and see if it has gone on to the correct plane!

How cool, don't know if its just me that thinks its cool from a tech nerds point of view but there you go. Makes travelling a bit more interesting

What do you think?

I've seen something like this on the Business Traveller forum site and seems like a good idea.  Don't think we'll see it in the UK any time soon as decisions on things like runways take forever! Maybe the Chinese will be the first to introduce it; have you seen there airports around Chinese new year.......

Those paper tags are surprisingly strong and have now replaced the need for an additional tag as your name is printed on it.  However if travelling with friends/family you often find first surname alphabetically dictates the name on the other tags.  Computerised baggage handling "behind the scenes" is now the norm, but like anything with human input mistakes happen.

With the development of apps someone may be working on one that scans your part of the tag that's attached to the boarding card, which you can then use to track where you bag is, s oyou don't need the expensive suitcase.  An interim solution perhaps?
