Google Instant - changing results?

One thing I have noted with alarm over the last week since I started seeing the instant results is. On our adwords we've suddenly seen an almost 20% increase in our bounce rate which is really scary as google will start to think the site is not relevant to the searches leading to it?

I think this thread may be starting to show that the whole thing is potentially up in the air at the moment and we're not 100% sure where they'll land?

Reading the posts on this and other forums it all seems very unsettled at the mo. Some are seeing no change, some are seeing some change and others are seeing quite significant changes.

I too think that it is potentially too early to say if any changes noted are a direct result of the introduction of Instants. I also think SEOs, PPC consultants and webmasters will have been really checking this out and therefore could have some effect on the current behaviour of the instant process.

I've decided not to run around in panic mode until I have a full month of data to analyse as the timing of the launch coincided with other external factors (kids back at school, the major holiday months finishing, weather etc etc)

hmm, its all very interesting, I downgraded from red alert to amber, still seen no obvious signs of impact.

Good article by MrB, and one of the key points as he says, you have to be logged in to see this. Be interesting to get an idea the proportion of google surfers actually have accounts, and log in...

I do think it will skew stats though when it comes to ad impressions, so we will have to wait a few months until the likes of MagnifyB and other PPC managers have a chance to study their stats.

No, it's more than that.
It's similar but when you're in the search page (& you may have to be logged in) instead of it just suggesting/prompting as you type it also changes the search results in real time.

I found this annoying when it started, so I turned it off. What percentage of searchers will do the same? Maybe it's good for a really slow typer, but it takes about a half a second to type a search phrase into google, so I don't really see the point.

It's not all about speed. Though Google no doubt wants to stay ahead of the game in terms of speed.

I don't always have it on but when I do it can be useful in the fact that as I type it gives some options of words to put in. On some occasions I opt for what they propose rather than what I was going to type - which is why I think/thought it may effect the hits that some people get on websites.

Finally, the results change as you type in the change box so may see what you want before you finished type in the search box.

In fact, just checked Google Instant which explains far better, but to summarise..
  • Faster Searches
  • Smarter Predictions
  • Instant Results

Thought I would post an update on my findings of change with PPC and the instant process.

After 1 month, in the accounts I was managing prior to the instant launch, I am seeing no significant changes.

However.......this is only working on Google.com. It will be interesting to see what happens when this is available on the .co.uk domain :|
