Start doing link building where anchor text is your targeting keywords.

This is great advise. Google see the keyword (and therefore the page as more important to its search results if it has these specifics:

1. link is on the keyword
2. keyword is in the title
3. keyword is in the subtitle
4. keyword is either in the first or last paragraph.

hope this helps

Targetting your primary keywords may take a disproportionate amount of work to get to page 1 compared to your journey to page 2.

Why not throw in some additional keywords on the target page along with using the additional keywords on some of your internal links to bring in some extra long tailed searches.

I've found this approach to be very effective.

and also don't forget possibly the most important place to put your keywords.

In the page Title. Yes you need it in the h1 title but also in the meta tags. This comes up in the tabs and is paramount to google.

hope this is useful

The link should be pointing back to the site you wish to rank and the anchor text used should be the word you are trying to rank for.

There is no short cut way to succeed! Good content, KW research and Good backlinks from all sources must.
