hmmm, only just picked up on this.

"From 25 May, European laws dictate that "explicit consent" must be gathered from web users who are being tracked via text files called "cookies".

These files are widely used to help users navigate faster around sites they visit regularly.

Businesses are being urged to sort out how they get consent so they can keep on using cookies."
BBC News - New net rules set to make cookies crumble

If it stops James Caan adverts from stalking me online, it can't be a bad thing, but looks like those of us who use cookies need to do some research.

Anyone else already looking at this?

I am going to follow what Google does! They are obviously a massive user of cookies for behavioural marketing. Not only for search engine results for the end user but they also use cookie data for PPC conversion tracking and analytics data for businesses.

Also I am sure the DMA will work out something and post some solutions

If you spot anything, maybe post back here. Can't see this being any more enforceable than having contact info websites and emails.

According to a statement today from the ICO spokesman, the office will publish guidance on enforcement action "in the coming weeks". I too will be interested in the implementation and enforce of this mandate which could have huge implications in behavioral targeting/online advertising industry.

I imagine there is plenty of time for the small peeps to get in line with this.
