Am wondering whether anyone's got helpful ideas plse ...
I've recently bought a Parallel Centronics to USB adapter cable, to link my super-reliable, very old HP Deskjet 520 printer to my just as well-behaved laptop. The computer sees the printer and the printer works (eg all the right lights light up).
Sadly nothing prints (the printing error message comes up each time I try).
Because I bought the cable locally (at PC Clinic Broughton Astley, to give them a well-deserved plug for excellent customer service), the shop tested the printer and cable on various PCs and laptops in the shop - with the same results on all of them as I was getting.
PC Clinic are going to talk to their supplier on Monday to see whether he can suggest a way round this non-communication; they'll also see whether anyone else they know might have some bright ideas. They've offered to refund my money but what I'd much rather have is a functioning computer-printer set-up.
Has anyone here experienced a similar problem and "fixed" it please?
Yours hopefully, Linda
Oh dear ![]() ![]() Have you tried new drivers from HP? HP Deskjet 520 Printer- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center O/S version only goes to XP, but if you have Vista/Win7 on your laptop, might be worth a try...
I have a similar problem.... I have an epson office wireless printer but cannot get my laptop to recognize the printer to add it to my preferred printers. I have to send myself an email and print it from my home pc... very frustrating when you are sitting in front of a client to print out their documents and it doesnt work!
Well I'm going to join in now as well ![]() Bought a new HP B&W laser to replace our old trusty office HP4050N, as it worked out cheaper than replacing the toners. But it's too new and shiny to be reconised by our workhorse Windows 2003 Office Servers, as there's no 2003 printer drivers for it. It want's Win2008 ![]() So, the trusty old office HP4050N now has new toners, it trundelling away happy as Larry, and will prob stay in service for the next 10 years, and Clive now has our new printer stuck into his laptop... Sometimes I think technology is going backwards.... especially if its Microsoft related... thumbsdown
“This is going to be my fault because I said to get a cable and scrap your old PC” No Steve, your advice was helpful, it was my decision what to do with it and I'm happy with the choice I made. If I'd kept the PC, I'd still be faffing around trying to make that work. I'd far rather have the free space - particularly as I've inherited a fairly new AppleMac (with own printer) which is coming on Saturday. I'm still hoping there's some way of making the old printer work with the (slightly less old) laptop. “Have you tried new drivers from HP?” Do I need new drivers plse? My laptop says:- "You have successfully completed the Add Printer Wizard Name: HP Deskjet 520, Port USB001" etc. So it sounds happy at its end. The laptop manual suggests the use of its parallel port for parallel printers and serial port for serial printers - though I'm not sure what significance this advice has (given the printer and cable wouldn't work on any other PC or laptop at PC Clinic). BluefinNW - has the supplier been at all helpful in suggesting solutions and / or agreeing to swap the printer for something more compatible with your home PC? Linda CareersPartnershipUK |
