I'm amazed they are still going! Definitely seem part of a bygone era.

Saw the documentary a couple of years ago when chef Heston Blumenthal tried to revamp their menu. Was hillarious, and none of the food was actually cooked, it was all done in a microwave

I assumed that the Heston Blumenthal effect would do them some good and they would spread it out across their network. I'd be interested to know what the success (or not) of those sites where they implemented his ideas as they seemed good at the time. I don't remember the microwave part of the programme maybe I missed that bit!

I agree with the new Chairmans approach, to.... "move Little Chef from being just a sit-down [restaurant] to one that combines sit-down with takeaway and also a retail offer. That sort of hybrid retail solution enables me to talk to other brands to bring them in to our properties."

If it does that successfully then I think it has a chance of surviving.

Yup old Heston was amazed, the "cooks" didn't have any thing to cook on other than a microwave, so he refitted the place with a new kitchen if I rem rightly. Bet approach and menu never got rolled out, whole thing smelled of a PR stunt at the time by Little Thief bosses

i've never been to a little chef. is the food any good?

i've noticed a lot of them at motor way rest stops but usually rest stops host multiple restaurants and i generally just grab a burger king or kfc

Like a trip back in time to the 1970's

They're motorway services. If you're on the long haul and you're starving at 7.30am in the morning, they're a Godsend. Pricey stodge, but when you're hungry...

And sometimes a fry-up is just what the cardiologist ordered, to coin a phrase.

Haven't been to one for around 10 years, the last one I went to was in Harlow. There was around 3 or 4 customers in a 40 something seat restaurant, the only thing that was hot was the tea. The glossy menu always looked more appetizing than the actual dish that was served, but if your tired and hungry it's amazing how nice muck can really taste... Still, sad to see another British icons demise.

Thanks,
Barney
