It looks like Barclays has been doing some clever accounting and find a loop hole which the UK governments just closed and now asked them to pay
(chokes on coffee) that much? One thing I have always realized is that when it comes to tax and the government, no one's safe. If you do something wrong, they will find you. Thanks, Dreamraven
500m? is that it? they reported over 10bn in profit last year so the discrepancy was only 5%? they reported another 10bn profit this year... the world is in recession, how are they making so much money??? BoBo_184
Sorry to bump the thread, but i found some more info here at the independant. “Barclays was hit by further damaging revelations about the culture that was allowed to flourish in certain parts of the bank yesterday after it emerged that a senior executive had suppressed a damaging report into Barclays Wealth in America. The report, compiled by consultancy firm Genesis Ventures, was said by a Sunday newspaper to have sharply criticised a "revenue at all costs" strategy and a "culture that is high-risk and actively hostile to compliance".” ![]() Thanks, Dreamraven
I don't think they will have to many problems paying it. Last Thursday opened a new business banking account with them, had to meet with the local business manager 4 hours this meeting took just to open a bog standard business. They sign you upto "My Business Works" package which consists of 12 months access to moonfruit website builder, sage one bookeeping a one day marketing course, which according to their own literature consists of nothing more than "how to open a facebook account" "how to open a Google+ account" "how to open a Scoot account" So not having time to read all the bumph at this meeting, took it home to read and realised none of it was appropriate for me. So called them up yesterday and told them I would not be attending and wished to cancel as paying Barclays Thanks, Barney
“Told him as of yet the account still had no funds in it and as of now I will close the entire account down and go elsewhere and see you later.... ![]() lol Was reading Barney's post, whilst listening to Clive currently on the phone to our business bank manager ranting and threatening to close our account. All he wanted to do was open a new savings account, 30 minutes later and he's still on the phone and it sounds like tempers are getting frayed! Yup, just heard it, the compensation word ![]() Banks eh?
(makes a mental note to behave from now on ![]() We have more or less the same issues here. At one point, I had my bag stolen, and with it my ID book. When I started working online, I needed to open a bank account, so I did it online. when I had to go into the bank to fetch my card all blue heck broke loose, and what followed was six weeks of begging, pleading and temporary ID showing before any transactions. Thanks, Dreamraven
**mutters something inaudible under breath** ![]() Oh no - i rang the Bank last week, they sent me a link in an email to their website, ok - click on said link - opens to the list of accounts you can open - click on another link - would you like to fill in details online (nice & simple) oh yes thats good - 15 mins later, submitted pre-filled doc to the Bank. Today i get another blank application form plus a request for the retired company secretary to take some id in the her local branch ... reaches for phone .... 15 minutes on hold - spoke to someone.. you didnt actually complete the application online, just a pre application to ascertain which account you wanted (blood pressure rising) also no notes on company secretary changing 4 or 5 years ago, even though we removed her at this time & despite me opening another account with them 2 years ago & going through exactly this pain, so has she remained a signatory on our account all this time? (blood pressure now peaked!) Sarcasm at full flow, demanding new account to be opened with credit by way of an apology.... Upshot, now filling yet another form, filed yet another complaint regarding service, still no new account opened 10 days on from initial enquiry arrrgh - next time Steve can speak to the Bank - im done !!!!!!!!!!! No sense of humour left ![]() Clive
(takes ten steps back from clive). Dang, that's a heck of a lot of torture to go through for an account though. Needless to say that the account I had is probably closed by now. Have a much, much better bank. ![]() Goes to show though, no matter how much you hide behind an image of being "the best bank to do business with", if you are surrounded by incompetence, your image o't last very long at all.
