Becoming a Non Smoker

Thanks Ray . amazing how the slightest stress automatically makes you reach out for them, or hunt them down when its been hidden from you (by yourself). They say that it takes about 3 days for the nicotine to work itself out of the system, and that the worst withdrawals happen after that time.

Its all true but if you dwell on the negatives you will get a negative response. Accept it wont be easy, however each day remind yourself how well you have done, in the last 24 hours, the last few days and in my case the last few months. I have been a moody, grumpy **** at work but my friends have (so they say) forgiven me for the greater good.

I am now training hard with my oldest son, and I am at last losing the excess weight gain. Will I ever smoke again? I like to think not, I hate the smell of smokers now....hypocrit I hear you cry...but honestly I can smell a smoker from 500 yards away... keep fighting, you will do it.

On a bad day vent your anger on here, I did and looking back it was MLF that got me through.

Thanks,
Ray Priestley

Still not smoking. This is the longest I have ever been. I don't even mind sitting with smokers.

Dreamraven fell off the wagon and is now embarassed .

Have we set a new date?
Are you going to come out fighting?

Of course you are

I am not pushy am I? Just eager to recruit another non smoker....

Thanks,
Ray Priestley

I failed a million times before. You never give you just keep trying until you do it.

Ryan

Three steps forward, one step back ... still progress and still a better base for the next move forward. You're winning, you just haven't won yet!

I'm terrified of heights. It took an awful lot of scrabbling round at the top of the 30 foot "cliff" before I managed to abseil down it, even though I wanted to (?????). You want to be free of the dreaded weed - it's not surprising if there are some setbacks before you manage it. Success begins today! Good luck, Linda

You guys I haven't set a difinitive date to be honest. Wishing it was easy won't help either lol but I will bite that bullet and get it done with. That much I can promise. I just have to stop being a chicken.

Thanks,
Dreamraven

To get both you need to set a date...possibly a new years resolution..

just a thought

Thanks,
Ray Priestley

Good idea, methinks. I will have to. I guess i'm just scared and deflated at the moment because nothing seems to help. But there is no other way, it has to be done.

Thanks,
Dreamraven

I am rapidly approaching the one year milestone of being a non smoker (I stopped on the 25 February 2012).
Like you I never thought I could do it, but then **** happens...wont bore you with the details "but" bad news gave me a very good reason to stop smoking.
I am just glad that I had the choice.....many people don't and so far I have not wasted this chance.

Do I miss it? sometimes especially when I get stressed at work (but thats just another excuse smokers use)

Do I regrett quitting? not for a moment, I work out with my oldest son 3 times per week, I can do that now!

Is the fight over? I accept that it never will be...just like a recovering alcoholic I will always need to be on my guard but here is the really good bit....

I am now

Thanks,
Ray Priestley

That's awesome that you could say you've not smoked for a year. I look at people like you , Steve and Clive and can only hope that I can be that strong. But you're right. I have had a million chances and now's not the time to go wasting any more I get. So, I am going to set a date for this and hope that this time, I can stick to it.

By Saturday morning. This Saturday morning. (I'm too chicken to make it sooner )

Thanks,
Dreamraven
