Hi guys,
If any of you have read my previous threads you'll know that I am new to all this forum/blog/website things...I'm trying to expand the audience of my products.
I have no idea how blogs work, I don't understand how they differ really from twitter/facebook and product information on my website.
Any advice or suggestions would be grately appreciated - what do you put in a blog and how do you get it out there? Is it like a diary?
I have attempted two 'blog posts' already so if you would like to see them to see if I am doing the right thing that would be appreciated: Personalised Signs:Blog and Personalised Signs
Then the thing is, people say to do blogs to attract traffic to my website but how do I get people to my blog lol?
Thanks
Graeme
I'd say writing a blog is beneficial to both your business and driving traffic to your site. I get quite a few calls from people enquireing about certain things i.e. like electric heating where they could only have got the information from the blog rather than the site. Anything that is written on the blog is then submitted using onlywire to around 40 other sites like stumbleupon, Twitter, Plurk and other similar type sites. To be honest I have no idea what I am doing but it does seem to work, but as an example I wrote an article about 'electric central heating in London' last May, within 2 minutes it was on page one of Google and there it has remained ever since. I've also commented about a television programme where they wanted me to carry out a weeks work for nothing other than to have a link put on C4's website ![]() Thanks, Barney
That's really interesting isn't it? So what is this onlywire?
Onlywire is a submission service I think I spend $13 a month on it, although I'm sure there must be other similar type sites out there, whether they are free or not I don't know. I only use this one because it was the first one I came accross and for a dimwit like me it's easy to use. Thanks, Barney
Blog promotion is effective when you use unique and fresh content on it, it is also helpful to attract more traffic to your main website if you have. JohnDale
Must admit, never come across it before, as you are getting results, may have to give it a go!
Blogging matters to business because blogging can represent your company in a positive light. And basically its like a tool for communicating with customers or employees to share knowledge and expertise. Few good reasons why you need a blog for your business are: 1) Search engines loves blogs, as they produce content regularly & SE's always crawl, index rank new content on web. 2) You can use it for your company news, events, new services, partnerships and special discounts which works as an opportunity to communicate to your clients, as real-time updates. In general, when it comes to blogging, most persons will agree that "content is King" - so what this means is that you should be writing frequently, and with high quality content. I would suggest blogging about subjects you are familiar with and enjoy, even if they don't necessarily correspond with the subject matter of the blog you are trying to promote - you'd be surprised as to how things can be incorporated. Good luck. Scintillion
Mostly, a blog can be used to link the blog to your site. An interesting point is that you could showcase some of your creations and then link from the blog post to the item you wrote about. Writing is subjective, if you want to document days in your life, then that is what you write about, if you want to write about products/items you have created, then you write about that, but there you can add interesting tips, tricks, advice, or basically anything that would make you seem the authority on the subject. That helps build reputation and trust, and if you link your site and your blog, people will naturally follow to see what you are talking about, or the final product. The only real advice I can give with blogs is write in a manner you're comfortable with. I generally just write like I speak most days. It helps people identify and shows that you're not going geek on them and talking about things they cannot understand. (My trap that lol) As a friend of mine said once, be yourself and write from the heart. ![]() Good luck, I hope it works out well for you. Thanks, Dreamraven
@Graeme: I just observed that your two blogs: personalised-signs.blogspot.com and personalised-signs.co.uk/blog have same content. It would be better if you provide different content in your two blogs so your readers can read something new. To make your blog social, you should also insert visible social media buttons in every of your blog post. You can put them at the left-top or right-top part of your blog post so your readers can easily see them and be encouraged to share your content. |
