Lotsa stuff out there on the web about blogging.

I'm both an amateur and a lazy blogger so plse take what I say with several handfuls (not pinches) of salt ...

Many of us use blogging to attract visitors to our web sites. If you search engine optimise your blogs and place anchor text links on your blog back to relevant pages of your site, then you've a chance of improving your site rankings in the search engines. If you write lots of new stuff that's useful for visitors to know, they may return to your site more often and eventually become customers. Check key word popularity and competitiveness before you start to write your text and titles (try the free Google tools).

I'd have thought your line of business would lend itself to blogging. Suggestions:-

Cheers yes that is some useful advice, as you say our line of business in pests and black mould does lend itself to blogs. i like your tips and will put them into practice this afternoon, as we have now built a webpage for blogs

We've recently got into blogs in a big way - we tend to take current news and spin it in a way that makes it more relevant to the products we are focused on. For an example check out our recent blog post

The Sun Shines on UK Pub and Restaurant Sector | Enterprise Private Equity - a good example of a current piece of news with a spin to make it relevant to our services! In my opinion this is definitely the best way to make your blogs relevant/ popular - try and bring a unique opinion/ pice of information.

Thanks another good tip i will take on board

No problem - once you get into it blogging can be very enjoyable and a great way to self-promote, tweeting your blog posts also helps raise attention and opens your blog up to a wider audience - we have a built-in tweet button within our blog page so that any post is automatically linked to twitter.

I will look into that one and see if i have it already built in.

I really struggle with blogging. I never properly got into it, and I find it a chore, which is the sign of a bad blogger and ends up with a neglected blog

I love forums, and the forum format, but always struggle and sit staring at the screen when it comes to a blog.

Thanks to Tomsk, if you Google "Is Steve the worse blogger?" now the world knows my blogging inadequacy

But best of luck, and if you can crack it, it's an easy way to create self promotion back links, and with some decent content, can normally get a half decent page rank. Is it worth the effort though? Dunno, juries out!

Going to jump on that web rep bandwagon again lol. It does help though. If you keep at it, and build a following, in the end your blog can help you to be seen as an authority by your readers, and that's always handy when you need to show them the path to your sales pages.

Blogging basically consists of buying a domain, creating a website of your choice (Preferably using a blog-friendly theme such as those offered by WordPress), and then writing content or "posts" about different subjects. The theory is that if you create a blog about the industry or business you are trying to market - that if you write enough unique/fresh/interesting content that different persons will read it and then be interested in purchasing the products/services/businesses you are trying to promote. Most experts agree that blogging is a great way to market your business - and can be fun and satisfying as well.
