This weekend we had the Stratford River Festival plus the Olympic Torch passed through.

Olympics cynics aside, it was nice to see the town all standing together and a bit of flag waving.

Captured it on film if anyone's interested, including the disabled scooter that seemed to be following behind the procession and taking advantage of a police escort

Must admit that was funny to see the disabled scooter following, somehow I don't think they should have been there. Anyway as of today there are no more road works allowed in Central London unless of course it is an emergency like a gas or water main leak. They've also started putting down the Olympic driving lanes, currently you can drive in them or as I and other drivers did today just sit in them and watch the boats on the Thames go by. Not sure what is going to happen if there is a breakdown or an accident when these Olympic lanes are in operation, I guess we can just sit there all day and wait for the pick up truck to come along, but as they are not allowed to use the Olympic lanes either I'm not sure how they will get to where the accident or breakdown is, time will tell and no doubt road rage incidents will be hitting the headlines...

Was that you laughing in the background?

We're all laughing here, the most priceless of it all was the impassive faces as they passed through the crowd.

Nothing this cool ever happens down here. Its just really cool to see a town and country get behind it all. I seriously live in the wrong area. lol.

I don't believe for one minute, that the majority of the country is behind it. 'Jobs for local people' went out the window

Guilty I thought I was going to hurt myself

Grumpy git! Like I said, Olympic cynicism aside, it is nice to see towns around the country making an effort and a bit of a patriotic cheer.

Driving from Oban to Glasgow a few weeks ago, we unintentionally drove the same day as the torch was heading the opposite direction. Every town we passed was absolutely packed with flag waving and excited people, and events going on, local bands, BBQ's etc. I thought Scotland of all places the response would be a bit muted, after all the Nationalist propaganda the media gives us.

It's not often you see the country pulling together, normally too busy slagging each off! The Olympics themselves may be the preserve of dodgy Corporate Business and shady politics, but the average person in the street will be watching it on the Telly like everyone else.

That said, it must be a total nightmare living in London at the moment, so can understand why Londoners have got the hump!

Maybe rent your house out and make a few quid?

I am sure that the UK government will use the Olympics as an opportunity to bring out dubious legislation and hide bad news.

No doubt the police and security services will use the Olympics as an excuse to threaten and intimidate people in London (probably everywhere). We are all terrorists unless we prove otherwise!

How much will the Olympics cost? Will there be fully audited accounts open to the public? Who is going to make money out of it apart from the official sponsors?

Not just Londoners, people commute from all parts of the UK to work and trade here, to have Locog tell people "if you must travel into Central London during the Olympic games it is advisable you do during the hours of midnight and 6am"!
These are the people that pay the congestion charge daily (

But no they chose to build it on contaminated waste ground, in a built up congested area...

Always thought the Birmingham 1992 bid made more sense. Central motorway network, middle of the country, good rail links, airport... ah well all history now...

From a business point of view, shall be glad when this summer is over, bank holidays, Jubilee, Euro 2012 and the Olympics... keeping too many people away from their computers!

I'ts still not to late to get Nick Knowles and his team to shift the whole damn thing up North, they can refurbish a whole house in an hour on the BBC

Thanks,
