You've seen QR codes, now how about Aurasmsa! (augmented reality)

I think this is amazing, an app that brings images to life.

"Autonomy, a leading enterprise infrastructure company has a new technology that can change the way we look at and interact with physical objects. Called Aurasmsa, it works with smart phone and tablets to, in real time, turn static images or even objects into videos, games and interactive experiences."

Aurasma Demo - YouTube

Certainly opens up all sorts of marketing opportunities. Anyone used or seen it used anywhere?

Wow this looks amazing!!

Brilliant, Steve.

Where did you encounter that? My minds already working overtime on its use in direct mail pieces, and it's only 7am. There's a basic example here:

Those that want to see more, there's plenty here (video 7 gives demos as to how it all works):

Can't take the credit, our man Clive was chatting to the owner of a TV production company who are based next door, and he was given a demo and shown an advert they are currently working on for a Chocolate company.

Like you I'm thinking of all sorts of ideas! But will it become saturated in 6 months and lose the novelty factor, or will it become established I wonder?

QR codes seem to be getting more accepted, so I wonder if this will take off as well.

Is anyone here familiar with augmented reality technology, such as Aurasma?

Apart from the other software companies, such as Blippar and Layar, it seems that companies such as Starbucks have their own apps for reading their content.

I wonder whether we would have to download an app for every one, as I presume that the Aurasma app cannot read Blippar content, and vice versa.

Anyone?

Had a very similar conversation the other day. The TV guys we've been talking to are developing this advert, but their client has licensed the app from Aurasma, so it is white-labelled but to view it, you need to download the app from the client as it is only available on their "channel".

This app and channel mindset is going to be the obstacle to overcome. I think it needs to be a single app or standard, preferably built into the next generation of handset.

Hadn't heard of blippar, but looks like they have started at the same time. Wonder if it will be a VHS/Betamax type battle or will the join forces and develop a standard?

It needs to be simple to use to gain widespread adoption, competing standards will just slow things down.

If you want to show someone who's a bit sceptical, and you have the Aurasma app on your phone, ask them if they have a

Yes, I agree with needing a single app. I've had a quick look, and there is an app called junaio (and maybe others, too) that appears to read them all. Unfortunately, I shall need to upgrade my phone to test it.
