I think this kinda ties in with a thread Steve added a while back. but it shows that cyber attacks are on the increase and that literally no one is safe anymore.

The survey showed 87% of small firms experienced a security breach last year - up 10% - and 93% of large organisations had also been targeted.

The post is taken from the Evening Standard, read through it and tell me what you think about it?

Pretty sobering reading!

Shows security needs to be taken seriously, but there's still a lot of user education required out there as well.

As part of our Trading Standards contract, we had to move parts of the site to SSL (data encryption) and we show the extended validation bar in most browsers:

But I'm genuinely surprised by the number of people who have no idea what this means, or it's importance especially on things like payment and transaction pages.

I'm even more amazed by the number of people that fall for spoofed and phishing sites, such as the emails from your bank asking you to download a form, open it and fill in the details...

I thought originally this was down to maybe older and non internet savvy folk, and as the internet became more common place, people would get more street wise. But it seems a lot of youngsters give little thought to online security, be it personal, or financial. I guess the same crosses over to business owners.

Maybe we need better education?
