Good and if he's free use him. Meanwhile, feel free to learn as you go... ...it all depends how quickly you want results. ![]()
Learning as you go is great, but if you need the income NOW, it is not going to work for you, web design is an art, and after tidying up so many sites for clients that took the cheap or 'someone said there good at it' sites, I still get surprised at all the SEO specialists and Web & Graphic designers that do not know what they are doing, I admit i do not know everything, and in an ever changing market, I probably never will. If you understand and are good at website design then go for it, if you are not then you need to pull in a pro, I think the internet is fantastic for business, but you need to know how to use it, and what works. Anyway, its 4am for me, been a long day, time to collapse!
“Hi guys, I have been slowly moving up the ranks on google and when I type brownie delivery I was half way up page 3, not great but getting there! Well now when I type the same thing I'm no where to be seen.. Why would this have happened and any ideas on how to work my way back up again?” Your google rankings vary not only multiple times perm day, but also across multiple google datacentres. Sometimes you get lucky, and see sites with minimal content sitting with a competitive keyword at the top of page 1 google. 9 times out of 10, its due to the volume of backlinks with the keyword as anchor text. Other factors for results coming and going can be content on your site. Now you've recently made some changes, and for the better, but now you need to sit down and analyze your copy. Decide how people find you via Google, ie what they type in "brownie delivery" "chocolate brownies" etc, then optimise your text so it includes these keywords. This is known as keyword density, place too many times and your marked down for keyword stuffing, not enough, and your keywords won't be regarded as relevant for your site. For any newbie that has little or no knowledge of SEO and isn't in a position to outsource it, then the best way forward is some sensible copy on your home page, then concentrate on link building with anchor text. eg, dear website owner, would it be possible to add my link to your site with an anchor text of "brownie delivery" Get 50 half decent sites to do this, and I bet you'll be on page 1. I'm doing a SEO 101 article which still needs finishing, but will try and get it done later today, as these kind of questions become more and more common, I think theres a demand for proper layman terms SEO.
“Decide how people find you via Google, ie what they type in "brownie delivery" "chocolate brownies" etc, then optimise your text so it includes these keywords.” Good point this - if I'm hunting for brownie delivery companies and I've never heard of Mama C's, I'm going to type "brownie" into Google, not "mama c's". “Good point this - if I'm hunting for brownie delivery companies and I've never heard of Mama C's, I'm going to type "brownie" into Google, not "mama c's".” very good point mary. took ages for me to think of name for sire that would come up in the searches. went for Fish and Seafood which is what i thought would be the common search words. and the got the domain to match with the direct that i wanted. Now i notice, many rivals are trying to get as close to what i have a possible. sean sean44mc
Good evening, my keywords include all of those words and brownies of course in the company name, you're quite right there's no sense in being able searchmy company name as you may not have heard of me yet.. I'm trying to incorporate them into the text as well so hopefully that will help.
as promised, I've uploaded my take on SEO 101. Hope it sheds a little light for newbies. The likes of Tomsk and Kev can prob give more indepth knowledge, but its a start ![]() http://www.mylocalforums.com/seo-webrankings-google-yahoo-bing-etc/846-search-engine-optimization-101-laymen-newbies.html
