Got home this morning to find the smallest book I've seen, the size of a small book but slimmer! Is this the end for the paper based directory, I must admit the last one was used to go under a table leg!
Yep - looks that way! Mine goes straight in the bin and the "yellow" one - which is of similar size. No idea why they bother printing & distributing them, i dont know of any one that doesnt search for things online these days Clive
They print and distribute because they make a tonne from convincing people to pay to advertise in there. Urgh... Yell are the bain of my life, that's for sure
Anyways, anyone want to give me £800 for sticking a sign with their name up in my window? The First Choice for First Aid From Cardiff to Calcutta...
I can't believe I'm going to stick up for the traditional directories But I imagine there are still quite a few people that still use them, I'm guessing maybe older folk? The days of the Yellow Doorstop are long gone, which is why Yell is up to it's eyes in debt. But if your business model allows a viable offline published version of your directory, and you can reach most UK households, then why not? It's great brand awareness. The crazy advert prices are long gone, and if you are generating numerous leads a year, then why not? I can't believe all the advertisers are new business signups that have been closed by a slick salesforce. So surely businesses would only re-list if they know they will get a good ROI?
Actually, you do have a good point. Pizza's, Plumbers, Undertakers etc.... It just seems right to find them in there. If you're considering First Aid through them though... lol, I'd give it a miss! Oh, hang on, you'd be competition... Yeah, they are great. Get the biggest advert you can through them! :-D Lol The First Choice for First Aid From Cardiff to Calcutta...
I know one plumber you won't find either in yell or Thomson directories. Both yell and Thompson got gready in the past and ripped off loyal customers. All my customers have to have internet access to pay online, so these 2 directories are long gone out of my life.... Even if they were free to advertise in they simply do not appeal to me.... Thanks, Barney |
